Hmmm, so.... has the pressure plate changed from AP1 - AP2? Or is the added torque and power of the AP2 to much for the PP that came with the AP1? If it's the first, then maybe taking out the CDV isn't whats caused my clutch wear that I didn't experience with my AP1. Anyone had feedback on replacing the clutch (PP) and not taken out the CDV to somewhat test this?

The PP did not change AP1 to AP2, but the flywheel is heavier. I've talked with people who replaced the PP but left the CDV in and they said there was a improvement in clutch pick up. So, remove CDV = faster bite, firmer PP = stronger bite imo. The clutch engagement doesn't bother me enough to do anything to my S.

When I was looking at the 03 and 04 I read all the horror stories about the CDV, but in my personal experience its not that bad.

04s have no minor issues that 05s don't.

Sounds like you're in the situation I was in back in '04. My MY00 was showing its age, and the "magic" was just missing. The MY04s were out, they looked great, they're still S2000s, and the Rio Yellow looked hot. So I pulled the trigger. Boy, what a mistake. Compared to other cars, the AP1 and AP2 are very similar, sure. But after owning, autoxing and tracking an AP1 for over 70k miles, the driving experience of the AP2 was a significant change. Most noticeable - lower gearing, lower redline, CDV, softer rear, no-grip front tires. The handling stability was an improvement, but at the cost of responsiveness. The other changes were a downgrade in my opinion. I loved the newness and looks of the AP2, but ended up selling it after a year. I'd kept the AP1, originally intending to sell it privately, and I still have it now and love it just as much as I ever did.

My advice? Find a used AP2 that you can test drive for a day. Some people have moved from AP1 to AP2 and loved it. Make sure you'll be one of those people before you go through with the purchase.

Regarding the CDV specifically - I removed mine. The clutch still slipped some - the current owner reports it can be pretty bad at times now. Reports are that the AP2 flywheel is significantly heavier than the AP1, so if you remove the CDV I recommend putting in a lightweight flywheel. (And might as well do a heavy-duty pressure plate while you're at it!)

Wait... so what happened to your big plans of full bolt-ons and the E-Manage? I guess you're going to do it on the AP2?

hmmmm. maybe ill just try and fine a nice low mileage MY03. maybe a NFR or GPW. all this CDV and PP and flywheel talk is really making me think that the AP2 might not have the light feeling that the F20.

this is harder than i thought. i really have to go out and drive one i guess.
