I have the Clifford 9000 alarm and I love it. I did go with the dual proximity detector and I don't get false alarms, but I do get alarms very quickly when people get too close. I personally like this fact as it generally scares the beejeezus out of whoever is too close.

The whole package (with an add on Alpine pager to call me if the alarm goes off) cost about $750.

On the remote starter - I don't know of any alarm that will allow a remote starter on a manual transmission. I know that on both Clifford's and Alpine's websites, they say that it cannot be installed on manuals.

I got the Clifford IntelliGuard 8000 with dual-zone proximity sensor.

I like it. The sensitivity is adjustable via the remote, which is a very handy feature. I have had zero problems with false alarms.

I did have an episode where the alarm was completely freaking out (technical term). It turns out that the negative battery terminal connector was slightly loose. Not loose enough to cause any other problems with the S2000's electrical system, but apparently the Clifford alarm is very sensitive to ground voltage variations.

Banannie,

no, I had it installed at Magnolia Hi-Fi.

Tim (now at the Lynnwood location) is the installer who did mine - he's very good, and very helpful.

He's looking forward to doing an audio install in my car, too. I'm waiting for more info on hard-wired dash control adaptors and various subwoofer projects before I start on that, though.

Sounds cool, Ted! Keep me posted - I've stuck with the stock stuff mainly cuz I'm so afraid to have anyone touch the car & mess it up - call me paranoid, I know!

I think I've got the same alarm... I know Innovative did another S2K so that's why I thought it might be you!

you should come out to another autocross - check http://www.wwscc.org - there are a few coming up in February - one on the 24th probably in Everett! We'll be testing the new Comptech sway bar...

Banannie,

I know what you mean about being paranoid about people touching the car. I finally bit the bullet and I'm having Doug at Bellevue Honda do the seatbelt, transmission and clutch work. RT recommended him and he seems like a great guy, so I'm hoping it'll all turn out OK.

I'll have to see if I can make it to the autocross, that would be fun!

Thanks,

Ted

Thanks for the reply everyone!
Currently I'm looking for Intelligaurd 7000 and 8000
or the Alpine SEC8063, however, these alarms don't come with the remote starter which I'm looking for. Some of you said remote starter can't be installed to manual cars, I don't know about it, but my friend's manual Supra TT has the remote starter so...I'll go check it out later.

On the Prelude, I have the Clifford SE 5000, first to offer all the proximity sensors, angle sensors, door sensors, pager tied in to system, etc. Got it back in '94 through the dealership along with LoJack and autostart feature. Had the car stolen once, while the alarm was in valet mode. Car was found in 10 minutes with Lo Jack, thieves had only gotten to the nearest highway (about 5 miles away from where I reported it stolen). The cops began following them immediately. THey followed the thieves all the way into the city to see if the car was going to a chop shop or if it was going to be used in any other crimes.

The price of the alarm and Lojack set me back about $800, put into the financing of the car. Quite expensive seeing that I idioticly went through the dealer, however, with anti-theft discout I get from the Insurance company, it paid for it self, and continues to save me money.

The before picture.

I will swear by Clifford products!!! The autostart was still in my car when the auto tranny was converted to manual tranny. However, because of the unpredictable nature of the car wanting to start whenever, I removed it (even though when I park my cars, they are always in neutral).

For the S2000 this summer, I will be adding the Clifford 9000 alarm, but will pass over the LoJack. Hey if the S2K gets stolen, I can replace it with a '01 model, yellow on black, and no recalls.

NA-1,

I know that it is possible to add a remote starter to the Clifford 8000.

I'm not sure about doing this on a manual car in general or the S2000 in particular... You'd have to work around the immobilizer and the clutch interlock, and would want to add an interlock to require the transmission to be in neutral.

Personally I wouldn't want to lose the immobilizer - I've seen it work (kept my wife's Integra from being stolen).

What's your reason for wanting the remote starter? Is it for warming the engine up on cold days? If so, have you looked into the Honda engine block heater accessory?
