Default What am I doing wrong?

Well after two weeks of owning MY01 I finally decided to give it a launch from dead stop. I rev up to approx 6k then let go of the clutch as fast as I can and my rear wheels just kept on spinning then I see my rpm about to hit 9K so I just stop everything. It seemed like I could of shifted to 2nd and my wheels would still be spinning. My tires still have good tread on it so Am I doing something wrong?

What was the temperature outside? Were your tires warm? If it was cool outside and you weren't on warm tires then they would spin for a while. Was the sound of the tires more of a screech or just rubber sliding. That should be a good indicator. There's so many factors, it's hard to determine exactly what it was. But if you feel that the same conditions exist the next time you try then maybe you should launch at a lower RPM. I've never launched lower then 6k and still hookup at or above VTEC.

My 7K launches are usually pretty successful (when I do them). One night it was cold out and I raced a moded SS from a dead stop, man my tires kept spinning, wouldn't grip and neadless to say he had 3 cars on me before we started. Like drop said that's probably the issue.

Are you sure it was your wheels that were spinning? First time I tried what you did and it was my clutch that was slipping - 5mph in 1st at 9k rpm, change to 2nd and 10mph in 2nd at 9k rpm.

The trick is to drop the clutch at 7.5k rpm if you want a "little" whel spin. What mph was your speedo showing?

First gear, 9k should read around 42-43.
I'm confused. Is this just wheels spining out because I can only get to 36 (give or take) at 9k while moving?

I'll bet it was your clutch slipping. To get the clutch to grab on a launch, you must side-step it.

Would that be where double clutching can help some what. If my wheels are spinning and I step on the clutch again would it grip the second time? do a lot of you guys use side-stepping?

I don't side step. I just let go as fast as I can. Sidestepping sounds to violent for me.

I guess you could try double clutching. It's not what double clutching is really for but it would probably work.
I wouldn't do it this way only because it sounds like it might wear the drivetrain a little too much.
