I don't side step my clutch when i launch. I also don't slip it. Once you get used to letting it up fast it is pretty easy. I noticed it got easier to launch the car after I had the TSB done for the clutch rining noise. Maybe the new friction plate is more grippy. I never side-step anymore and it works just fine. But, when i launch, in order to keep the engine in vtec the whole time, the wheels spin quite a bit when in 1st geat.

I think these tires are much harder compound than the S-O2's. You might want to try a lower RPM drop. let me know how it works.

yes the dead pedal will get in the way.
try this:
put the car in neutral.
push the clutch in, then wiggle your foot down until only the tip of your shoe is on the clutch pedal. The slide your foot down until your foot comes off the pedal. It will pop up. Try to make sure it doesn't hit you in the shin...it smarts!!

Practice this in neutral it is easier and safer on the drive line and clutch. It will become fairly easy and you can use this technique whenever you want to pop the clutch for a standing start.

Can I make a suggestion? Trade it in on a Mustang or Camaro. You bought the wrong car. Better yet, I think Kenny Bernstein is retiring. You might get a good deal on a used dragster...

The s2k may not be a drag car but it's still fun to drag it.

The 7.5 K RPM clutch drop has always bothered me. I can easily chirp my tires by side steping just over 5K . I get a quick chirp and the car just takes of ( once in a while it bogs a bit, most times the rpms just climb like I was going downhill ). And this is at 5K ft altitude. ( Colorado ) If I drop past vtec I just spin and the car steps out to the right before hooking up. ( And it's not the clutch cause at that point there is usually a signifigant amount of tire smoke and dirt flying up ) This is with warm tires. Cold tires I spin quite nice at 5K and at 6K it just makes a lot of noise.

When I launch I usually leave the car ideling then right before the launch I goose the gas to 5k rpms, I let go of gas and drop clutch at the same time, and immediatly re-apply WOT. The car chirps, lunges forward and keeps on going.

BTW: I'm completely stock and had around 4K on a pair of SO2's the 1st time I did this. Does that sound strange... or am I not launching as hard as the car can go? I did this several times against a friends camero SS and got a 1-1.5 car jump every time. ( Unfortunetly that lead quickly evaporated )
