Would his tires keep burning out if his clutch is slipping? In my experience with clutch slippage, the engine revs up and I'm not going anywhere. Then there's that whole smell, ut that's another story.

I think lostsol REALLY needs to figure out what "double clutching" is and when and why it is used. I can only see some expensive repairs in his/her future.

Okay, LOL, but still, somebody should help lostsol. He's lost on this one.

Double-clutching is only used for shifting the transmission. Double-clutching while trying to launch will do nothing but smoke your clutch and slow your forward momentum.

Don't feel bad for asking, and don't mind our ribbing- we are here to help, too.

thanks for the info... the double clutch idea was a suggestion from a friend. But man, I can't seem to get this car to launch. Maybe I just need some more practice. So do I floor it once I let go of the clutch? And if the car redlines and my rear wheels are still spinning, should I just give up that race?

Some people just feather the accelerator until the wheels grab. I lay into it and as long as the clutch isn't slipping I wait for the wheels to hookup. Sometimes they hookup right at VTEC and sometimes they hook up a little higher. It's just trial and error. What kind of tires are you running on?

Thats what happened to me when I was at the track and I couldn't figure out why too. I launched at 7k, tires were already warm, and the tires kept spinning. Still to this day not sure what happened but all I know is I F@#ked up my clutch for sure, it smelled so bad, and the smell was still there the next day!

Is that like "G-string"?

Are they "good" tires? I don't keep up on tires. Most cars come with cheapo tires from the factory, and changing to almost kind of "performance tire" will help considerably.

But the S2000 is a different story, since the tires were more or less designed specifically for this vehicle. The original S02's are pretty tough to beat for warm-weather dry traction, unless you get some serious (like for autocrossing) performance tires that have DOT treadwear ratings of 50.
