Chevron 93, first choice
Texaco 93, second choice

Used Exxon 4 weeks ago and got horrible mileage, only about 230 miles out of 10 gallons.

I usually get 300.

I wonder if there's a case of fraud here - assuming everything else is equal (ie driving conditions, the pump really filling full on the previous fill, etc); such a drastic change in mileage could be attributable to lower octane gas.

I think he got one of them Civic engines in his S2000.

Either that or he's just really into cruising in 6th all day. Lame.

I used to use 76 . . . but not anymore. About a year ago they started adding alcohol to their fuel in California.

Alcohol, besides having less energy BTU's than other oxygenates (MTBE), is tough on fuel system components. It absorbs water and causes corrosion. Basically nasty stuff in cars or car drivers.

Now I use Shell or Chevron.

All hi-test in California is limited to 91 Octane except for Unocal 76 racing 100 octane gas. I use 50% Chevron 91 and 50% Unocal 100 octane.

I can feel the difference between 91 and 100.
