Anyone have the link to the thread with all the codes?
Don't bet on it. "Bumper to bumper" means for them to "fix" something. They're not necessarily going to do something for you for free if it was your fault for not tightening up a gas cap (if that's what it is).

It's stickied at the top of UTH.

Thanks for all the insight. So disconnecting the battery should reset the code? I assume the car will 'recover' from the 'odd running'?

Exactly, for god sake just go get it checked and THEN ONLY THEN should you reset it if it is the gas cap probablem, unless you got a money tree in the back and don't mind if a motor goes which is the worst case scenario.....s

Don't disconnect the battery to reset the ECU. To reset the ECU remove the no. 25 "backup" fuse from the cabin fusebox for about 60 seconds.

EDIT:What Model Year S2000?

Don't jut reset the ECU, that's like painting rust.
Well said.

As far as what is considered a driving trip, It is not a matter of simply driving the car a few blocks and turning it off, then starting it again. It's interesting to me that the S2000 owners manual say's it takes 3 driving trips to clear a CEL. In my GF's Civic manual it say's it only takes 1 trip. Just another example of how the ECU tuning on the S2000 is a little more high strung than other Honda's. Back to original question, there is a hint as to how long you should really expect it to take on an S2000 in the "quick start" quide that comes with the car. Unlike the S2000 owners manual the quick start guide say's "It takes at least 3 DAYS of normal driving for the light to go out." I believe the ECU does not recognize a new driving cycle until the ECT and IAT are witihin a few degrees of one another. In other words the car may have to be ice cold before you set out for the ECU to consider it a new driving cycle. Going a mile to gym for an hour, then heading home probably won't count. I also believe that the ECU dosen't begin sampling certain signals until other criteria are met. I'll bet your 30 mile trip counted as 1 as long as the car was cold from overnight when you started.

Get the code from Autozone, the dealer will most likely try and charge you a flat rate hour of $85.00 to "pull your car in and hook it up to the "computers"".

It is a 2001.

I will get the code before resetting the ECU. I was just wondering how to clear it once I get the code.

Depending on which code, a 'trip' as you call it can consist of three times "key-on key-off", but in some cases three times a full "warm-up cycle" where the engine temperature must rise from roughly 100F to 180F.

It's not unlikely your short trips did not meet the full warm-up cycle criteria.

Take care,

Siepel

Ok, so I guess when I got gas a few days back I didnt tighten down the gas cap. So yesterday on the way home from work the check engine light comes on. I get home and check the gas cap - very loose - I tighten it down and consult my owners manaul (just got the car 2 weeks ago). It says the light will go off after 3 trips. So what counts as a trip? After checking the cap I have:

driven to the gym (~1mi)
driven home from gym (~1mi)
driven to carpool lot (~7mi)
driven home from carpool lot (~7mi)
taken a joy ride/trip to target (~30mi)
driven home from target (~10mi)

that seems like more than 3 trips to me. Is it time to call the dealer or have I just not logged enough miles on most of my trips?
Driving to the gym (~1mi) and back? Just let the car at home and do a little gym going to the gym
