What do the numbers 10W-30 stand for?
10W30 is the weight of oil. It is a multi weight rating. The oil is 30 weight but acts like 10 weight (thinner) when the temperature is cold.....ensuring optimum lubrication when you first start up an engine.

So if I am speaking to someone about oil and this comes up in conversation if I say the second number is the ture weight and the first number is the cold weather weight I would be correct?
