i'd say have patience, engines come up for sale in the classifieds every now and then for under two grand (they usually sell cheaper than hardtops), just wait and do a clean swap, then part out your old engine...
yeah, this is probably the best advice. i haven't been patient, not to say that it takes a whole lot of room in the garage.

body has no more than 120,xxx miles or so, it was my daily for 4 consecutive years. if anything, i'll renew my membership and put it up on the boards.

An 03 with 120k on the clock, Blown motor,..and a torn softtop...Sad to say you wont get much... save up and buy a used block..or part it out over time. But you wont get much if anything for it now

Part out would seem like a better option. 2 very valuable things on your S are ruined. I dont think you can quite make enough money to get another S through just parts alone. You can get a decent chunk of change to give a down payment on another. Alternatively if your body is in good shape i would buy it off you how it sits. PM me with how much you are willing to take for it and where you are located if you are interested.

Tough call without having the faintest idea where you might be located.

I see low mileage used f20's on craigslist around here for 1500-2000 dollars.

Wait till a low milage 1500 dollar motor shows up on craigslist + 100 dollar cherry picker from harbor freight = bada boom bada bing.
