It's for very cold climates where coolant can freeze and oil gets thick. Unless you've got Canadian neighbours you probably don't need it.

That's what I wonder too. Why do we need something to heat the engine? I guess it's for the cold weather people...

Thanks.

I have one in my Civic along with a battery and oil pan heaters. I spent 3 years in Alaska, required equipment up there. It's amazing what -60 degrees can do to an engine if you dont have the heaters.

Dude...the engine block heater warms up the air before it goes into the pistons and it makes your VTECH mad crazy powerful!!!!!!

j/k....like the others have posted, it is an accessory for folks who live in areas which experience severe cold weather. It keeps fluids from dropping below their "functional" temperatures. It also warms the block enough to help prevent cracks and such from thermal stress when the engine is fired up. Definitely not something you need to worry about unless you live in the extreme North (especially if you park outside regularly in the winter).

I have one sitting in a box waiting to go in for next winter. Can't wait to see how it works.

You'll certainly get to see how it works at El Forko Grande!

I live in manitoba (right about ND) and i don't even know if my car has one. Looked for it once or twice last winter but never found it. Doesn't bother me, we've owned numerous hondas and never needed it. Just plug it in on some super cold nights to warm it up a touch so that starting the car isn't harder on it than it has to be.
