What is the idea behind the Honda S2000?
I remember buying a mountain bike because I though they were great machines. However, I had no intention of taking it off pavement and soon it seemed too heavy for the road and the tires had too much resistance. I was using the mountain bike for something other than what it was intended for.
What is the S2000 intended for? What is the "idea" behind the S? If I buy the S2000 I want to be sure I am buying it for its intended purpose.

If you have to ask, you probably won't get it
It's a rough-riding, noisy, high-strung beast w/ very little creature comforts.....
It's also an exhilarating, responsive, tight, powerful rear-drive PURE BREAD sports car that will plaster a grin across your face every time you drive it if you appreciate it for what it IS AND ISN'T.

To me, the S2000 is intended for a person who wants a performance machine for the road. It just happens that the car is easily ready for the track, and many people are willing to sacrifice limited passenger/cargo/towing/etc capacity for performance.
Personally, I want a toy. I enjoy driving, especially when I'm driving a car where I have complete control. My initial use for an S2000 would be weekend use, occasional trips to work/errands/etc. just for the hell of it, and for longer trips when the goal is to get in the car and get out of town. In the long run, I think the S2000 would end up a daily driver. I want it to be a hobby; something to work on, keep in mint condition, maybe modify, and potentially get me in the position to learn how to drive better (autocross/track days). I want it to fill that void I seem to have whenever I get into a car to go somewhere and I feel like the experience is bland due to the minimal control that I have (this one is hard for people like my folks and coworkers to understand, not that I put it into those words exactly as it sounds really cheesy, huh?).
My opinion is that a car like this is meant for people who like to drive/work on cars. Oh, and that goes for both the pre-'04 and '04 alike.

You can race it without modifications, or you can drive it with its top down in city traffic and enjoy every minute you are in it. I enjoy my S2000 every day to and from work. Summary, it is a race car and it is also a daily car. The weather in Southern California is so good to drive a hardtop car.
