Well, actually, I *learned* in my friend's CRX and then got more lessons in another friend's '03 Tiburon...

I learned on my brother's 1969 Olds Cutlass with a 350 c.i.d. V-8. That was fun.

Got a quick lesson in a friend's 60's vintage VW Bug. After that most of my learning was when I purchased my first used car: a 1973 Honda Civic CVCC

64 Chevelle, 283, 3 dueces, 327 vette cam, solids, pistons and heads. Started as 3 on the tree but changed to a 4 speed. Wish I still had it.

You guys make me feel like a relic from a bygone era. First car with a clutch which I drove was a '53 DeSoto with the old Tip Toe Shift. That was a semi-automatic, in which you needed the clutch to get into reverse, forward drive, or Low forward drive, but then could go clutchless and rely on the fluid coupling to prevent stalling, and rely on a solenoid, actuated by vacuum when you lifted your foot off the gas, to shift to the highest gear in range. Next step us was a '60 Rambler American, replacing the DeSoto right after college graduation. That was a three speed column shift. Later, moved up to the four speed column shift in a '64 SAAB. Didn't reach 4 on the floor till my '78 VW Rabbit Diesel, and later reached 5 on the floor with an '82 Rabbit Diesel.
And, of course, my big step up to 6 forward speeds was my S2000.

time for another old fart to chime-in so Joe isn't so lonely

*1960 Dodge Dart, 225 cu.in slant six, 3 speed on the column (I was only 2 years old )
*1963 Dodge 330, 318 cu.in. V-8, 3 speed on the column (here I started to influence my Dad )
*1969 Pontiac LeMans, 350 cu.in. V-8, still 3 on the tree (not a GTO but it had some grunt)
*1968 VW cabriolet, ??? cu.in 4 cyl lawn mower engine, but it was MINE 4 on the floor.
