Default What to look out for in a used S2000

Hey I am looking into a used s2000, what things should I pay attention to while looking for cars. Are there specific models to avoid, I will be looking at 00-01 cars pretty much. What about all these motor/trans blowing issues I heard in the Write to honda forum.

thanks guys

Make sure to check VIN through CARFAX for initial lowdown on things.
Check under neath trunk lid and hood. If the rear bumper is completely painted in body color, chances are the car was in wreck before and body shops don't usually care when they repaint the bumper.

Also, hood and bothside fender gap should be tight. Any unusal gap between the two indicates that there was an accident.

People blow S2000 motors by misshifting. Engine itself is very reliable.
02 and above is probably your best bet. Although there are mint pre 02 models that are so well taken care of.

My advice is to find an enthusiast who took great care of his/her car. The problem with many of the s2000's 00/01 at that pricepoint if you purchase one from a dealership its probably going to be a car bought from auction that MAY or may NOT have been beaten to shit. Over-rev'd, bad rear diff ect. Check out the forsale part on the site and try to buy from someone who this car was their baby.
