Absolutely invaluable information for all of us considering the S2000. Huge thanks.

Thanks for mentioning this, I updated the line that talks about brake fluid with more info. AFAIK it's a very common problem that many/most of these cars have. Mine had a slight leak at 15k and I just kept an eye on the fluid level. If it's leaking there will likely be a wet spot on the carpet in the driver's footwell near the firewall.

Here is a thread where billman talks about servicing the clutch fluid:

Great post, wish i found it before my purchase, but thankfully there was no major issues with the one i purchased besides old tires and a key like scratch on the door panel that can get wet sanded.

I took mines to an independent mechanic shop and did diagnostic including compression tests. Compression tests came back perfect and mechanic told me the previous owner must have babied the car. The rotors had rust on them and tires were cracked most likely from sitting on the dealer lot all winter since November until i bought it 2 weeks ago.

Fluids needed to be swapped and new tires, that's pretty much it, i got the dealer to take the price down from 17k to 14k... 04 with 76k

I thought it was a decent deal.

I can't thank you enough for this. I can't wait to buy my S2K and this thread helped me on a lot of things to ask/look for. I think Ima actually print this one out and take it with me to each owner visit. Thanks again, seriously.

Don't forget to do a simple Google search with the VIN on top of an AutoCheck/CarFAX. You may get to see previous owners posts from this or other forums as well as a good history of the vehicle if it's been auctioned or at different dealers.

Awesome post! I've printed it out as I'm going to see 2 s2k's this weekend: an 07 BB with 88k kms for $23k CAD and an 01 Yellow with 132k kms asking $14k CAD. I'll be bringing this checklist with me to take a look at both.
