The things that make THE S2000 so special that don't show up in any tech sheet or head to head comparison.

Having an automobile designed by the same Engineers who designed the F-1 engines for Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost and Nigel Mansel.

Having an automobile designed by the same Engineers who designed the NSX.

Having an automobile Hand Built by the same people, in the same factory that build the NSX

Having a hand built (and superbly ballanced) engine designed just for this automobile.

Having a LANDMARK engine that revs to 9000 RPMs and produces a RECORD 120 HP per Liter.

Having a Commemorative 50th anniversary edition automobile.

Having the quickest shifting shortest throw transmission on any production automobile.

These are just some things that mean something to me that go beyond raw performance numbers. This automobile is very special because of these things as well as because of how it
performs. This car was not just some marketing strategy cobbled together from the corporate parts bin, this car was made by proffesional enthusiasts for an enthusiastic public to savour.

Very few automobiles are this special. Enjoy the moment people for we may never pass this way again.

Sorry for the repost but I just want to see if this gets moved by CThree to Off Topic again.

How many of you feel this belongs in "Off Topic" ???

Hi Bieg

I agree with everything you said, and feel lucky to have an S2000.

Administrators:

This is clearly a "car talk" topic. Please don't move it to off-topic since that would be insulting to Bieg and to everyone who participated in this discussion.

It's nice to know that we have a piece of motoring history. Most people don't consider the genuine racing technology that went in to producing this automobile. I remember reviews that were done on the Cobra, Shelbys, etc and how much they elobrated on the cutting edge technology they were derived from. They were extraoridanary for there time and will always be remembered as such, so will this car. I can only tell those that decided on another, "you payed to much, for too little performance, higher maintenance costs, and less overall satisfaction!"

Honda sends it's young engineers to racing programs not only to better their products, but to better the minds of the engineers. No other arena teaches them to react so fast to the changing playing field than racing.

It is significant to note that traditionally only engineers rise to the rank of president of Honda. Bean Counters need not apply.

Regarding what Honda's racing experience means for us, the S2000 owner consider the following;

The whole philosophy of the automobile is a practical race car for the street. This is a traditional sportscar in the purist sense of the word. Traditionally a SportsCar was a car you could drive to the track on Sunday morning, compete in your class and drive home in the afternoon. The S2000 better than almost any other car fits this mold.

Who else but Honda's racing engineers could pull off a 9000 RPM, 120 HP per Liter engine for a street car and warranty it for up to 7 years?

Valve springs and bearing materials derived from their CART racing engines.

One piece Aluminium webbed, girdled main bearing housing.

Carbon/ceramic cylinder liners.

Forged, crankshaft, Rods and Pistons.

Hollow camshafts.

Chain/gear driven camshafts.

Yes my friends racing does improve the breed (the cars and the Men who design them).

Of course this post does not advocate changing any parts or buying replacement performance parts from any of this boards sponsors at this time so expect to see it moved to Off Topic soon.

Bieg...if you think taunting the moderators helps, I'll let you in on a secret: it doesn't.

Who cares? Wow a threat.

Apparently the moderators can taunt us at will. It is after all their board.

Piss enough people off and they will go somewhere else. Nothing is forever.

What is wrong with this thread?

Not informational enough?

Not enough S2000 content?

Or are you just going to delete/move it because you can?

Gee teach me a lesson why don't you?

But let it be in full view of EVERYONE here so they can see what you guys are about.

I could not agree more with your assessment of both the car and also what should be acceptable commentary on the board. Your question and your topic opens the board to discussion that is very relevant, and I am very curious to see the responses. I am often surprised by the obsession that so many of our fellow owners have with the straight-line acceleration stats of this car. Many, many other cars our there (some costing far less) offer similar or better performance. What really makes this car special, as you so accurately said, is the overall package. The steering, roadholding, shifting, braking, build quality, styling, etc. It is almost impossible to break down into component pieces what makes something feel like a "total" design. The solidity and purposefulness that come only from a great concept, great vision, and great execution without compromises that most other manufacturers would be forced to accept. There are only a handful of cars in the world that have this much "fun" factor built in. That's what makes it special to me.
