what is power shifting?

Full throttle power shifting is pretty hard on a car -- but a gas. I destroyed both the clutch and the tranny in my 93 Prelude VTEC doing that. The clutch was just about the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Don't do dat no more!

 

Also known as "speed shifting".

 

Its forcing your clutch to catch while on a full throttle. The purpose is try to keep the RPM higher once getting into the higher gear. Also can gain a pull but.....DONT DO IT! Forcing a catch at 9k RPM is not highly recommanded.....

I always thought "speed shifting" was shifting while the gas is still in, but not necessarily at full throttle. If I shift at 9,000 RPM and keep the gas full throttle I'll redline immediately. Am I missing something?

Sometimes (rarely) I speed shift and just let off the gas about half way, instead of coming all the way off.

Note: I personally don't speed shift while racing, just when I'm very lazy.

This is what I do...call it what you want but, I usually load the shifter and then when I hit 9000 I let off the gas to between 1/4 and 1/3 throttle while I'm pushing in the clutch then as I'm letting out the clutch a split second later I mash the gas again...I find that the usualy method of shifting normally (letting off the gas all the way and putting in the clutch and then shifting releasing the clutch and then mashing the gas seems to put to much stress on the drivetran...I realize that my method prolly is pretty hard on the clutch but, it is the fastest way for me to shift the S2k and you don't get the split second of lag and thud you get when shifting normally.
