What you should expect is that the acceleration you're experiencing up to 5.5k to continue all the way to redline. Right now, in 2nd, you're getting up to 35, maybe 40mph before having to shift. When you're done with the 600 mile breakin, you'll be able to accelerate at the same rate all the way to 60mph. It just keeps going and going, and you find out that you've mentally accepted how all other cars have to shift gears and reduce the acceleration.

Constant acceleration from 20mph to 60mph is a wierd thing, very few cars to this. The "low end torque" cars have good acceleration that peters out as the speed climbs. The "lesser" cars (from an engine standpoint) can pull as hard as the S2k, but run out of RPM way before the S2k does.

Oh, and in VTEC, the pull/acceleration is slightly higher than below the VTEC range, but for me that isn't the part that puts the grin on me. It's the hold-on-oh-my-gosh-is-it-going-to-stop part of the acceleration not stopping =)

The first time I experienced VTEC was in the RSX, and it was a nice feeling. In the S2000 it's even better.

You'll enjoy it, thats for sure.

I have only had my S for a month...I VTEC the 1st day I got it. Man it sure is fin shifting at 9000 RPM. If you break it in or not Honda still has to warranty it so why wait...have fun. I did the same with my NSX and it runs strong after 10,000 miles with no engine problems. The radio has gone out a few times, the A/C broke, power windows gone bad but the engine is fine.

VTEC is nice, and does give a significant power increase, but after having had a 345 hp car that weighted 3200 lbs(98 Vette auto) the S2000 definitely isn't as "quick" even with the VTEC..

A comparable thing to VTEC I did was at approx 40 mph, in OD on the Vette I'd floor it... drop down from 4th gear to 1st gear and it didn't matter what type of pavement you were on, you would loose traction and the ass end of the car would jump about 6" sideways before you gained traction..

Expect it to be like a small turbo, not a huge or full-blown turbo. It'll definitely be faster once in Vtec. However, when I had a Prelude vtec, it seemed to be stronger than in the S2000. But of course, the S is much faster.
