Default What is stock air box weight?

I am starting my mod process now, and weight saving is a huge benefit to me. I am in the middle of a pending T1R 70mm single+test pipe that should save tons of weight, and despite looking for a vortech sometime within the next 6 months, I'd like to get a CAI for now so I can lose the stock box weight.

Has anybody weighed the stock box, including the cover and any mounting/screws included? I am trying to get my car down 100 pounds from stock before I add a blower.

I'm going with one of those Simota CAI you find on Ebay for 100 bucks. It looks great, probably does the same thing the AEM/Injen does for half the cost, and the filter appears to sit parallel to the ground, something the dreaded V2 does not do (angled upward). Check this intake out if you're in the market, hopefully it will be a nice piece when I recieve it.

I bought my Injen CAI off ebay for 96 bucks shipped. I think the box and all screws and stuff weights less than 10 pounds. considering the intake, you'll save MAYBE 2-3 pounds.

No way does the airbox weigh almost the same as the intake piping + filter I'll take your word over mine though seeing as I haven't taken the box off my car yet. The CAI I had on my old Del Sol saved a lot more weight than that.

Good price on the Injen. The more I look at this Simota piece, the nicer it looks. Color is nice, and construction looks top notch. Should be a nice mod for the cold winter months until I decide on a SC kit.

man, i just moved my stock air box today from my house to my mom's house, that thing can't weigh more than 8lbs. i am weak as hell, and that thing weighed close to nothing. it is just a big piece of plastic. if you want to mod to save weight, u can do that in places other than the stock air box.

I agree...not huge weight savings with an intake...like said before it could be around 2-3 lbs. definitly not more then 5.

I'm in the same "boat" as you with reducing weight...although, I don't want a blower.

Remove Spare Tire and Tools = -30lbs
Remove Trunk Plastics (fabric) = -10lbs
OEM Hardtop + remove softtop and motors ~ -20lbs
Replace stock exhaust with Single = -20lbs - 30lbs (40lbs for the really light titanium)
Test pipe = -5 - 10lbs
Repalce header and use heat wrap instead of heat shields = ~-10lbs

theres 100lbs

I'm personally wanting to reduce at least 200lbs while still keeping it comfortable...and I think its very well possible. I've recently corner weighed my car and came in at 2708lbs with about 5/8 tank of gas.

A lot of the times a race tracks there are (HPDE events) there are also race events...the race guys normally have to get weighed as there are certain requirements for them. I just asked if I could weigh my car as I was curious...and I did

Go on a diet. You can shed more pounds off of your body in a month than you can by removing the airbox.

Whats the point of all this?
Do you track your car? or race competitively? Even then, a few pounds of weight savings isn't going to help you much.

I just don't understand why would people do unnecessary stuff like this without any purposes.
