What will you do when....
I will keep my car until the last year the S2000 is produced. I am not trying to start one of those LAST YEAR idiotic posts. Assuming the final car is anything like ours I will buy it and drive it until it is DOA. As you can see below I have owned or spent a lot of time in some great cars. For pure driving pleasure this is the best I have owned. The Ferrari my brother had that I would have for weeks at a time was alot of fun but today's technology makes our car more fun to drive. I am also tired of dumping endless amounts of money into cars. Our cars are so cheap to maintain it is crazy.
*shrug*.. a 1990 Miata - clean and shiny, with some nice aftermarket wheels - still looks great today, and it's a 16-17 year old car. I see no reason at all why the S2000 shouldn't be "current" for MANY years to come

Dream car - Easily mine. It's the only car i've been drooling over since ~Jan '99. I still have magazines showing it's release.
Supercar? No.. but it's all I want
I think that most supercars will not last as daily drivers (apart from some German supercars).
There was an item about supercars on Top Gear last season.
The 3 presentors each had to buy one for (i forgot how much) certain amount (but not to much) of pounds.
All they ended up with was 20-25 year old Italian junk, one broke down during the program, spreading engine parts on the road!
Even when they had to buy a Porsche for less then 1000 pounds all they bought was misery.
The S2000 $/fun/horsepower/revs/relyability ratio is much, MUCH higher then with most supercars and therefor alone a Classic with capital C.
In my opinion that is.

The time the s2000 gets old will be when transportation becomes like Minority Report. As long as there are still nice back roads to drive around and gas stations are still up and providing gas, I think I'll forever own and love driving this car. Cross my fingers that the car will run well 10-15 years from now.
If Honda made a replacement that was superier in every aspect that the S2000 provides, then I might see myself picking up the Next S2000 from Honda. Next is the NSX! I'd probably hold on to the s2000 and pass it on to my first born

It may be "only" a Honda, but look at the production numbers. It is a limited (annually) production car. Allot of so called super cars are being built in far greater numbers these days. I have heard as little as 7000 S2000's a year are built worldwide. (Anyone have verifiable actual numbers)? That in itself may make the S2000 a classic. Not to mention the cars merits, like great handling, classic roadster looks, and most importantly, 110hp per liter naturally aspirated engine (120 for the 2.0 ltr) . It was and may still be the highest specific output normally aspirated production engine in existence. That again is reason it could easily lead to classic car status. A $200,000.00 price tag is not required for classic car status!
