You can order a base BS for as low as $50k in the northeast (takes some shopping and bargaining). Takes 3 months but you get exactly what you want. Keep in mind this is 1st year production for 987. S2000 was going for 3-5k over MSRP this time in its 1st prod year.

Truth is even the base Boxster is more well equipped than the S2000 and priced 10k over. Based on paper spec (I don't like magazine racing anymore than you do, but that's all we have to hang our hats on right now), it should have a slight edge in acceleration. Base Boxster has the same suspension as the BS except for wheels/tires. After you account for the higher cost in more expensive material used and more standard equipments, there really isn't all that much left for "inflated sticker of a luxury badge." Only point I am trying to make is its price is not highly inflated for its badge privilege. Certainly more expensive, but you get more too. You may not like those additions, but some do as any car cannot be catered to every individual's needs and wants.
