What Year To Buy?
I'm thinking of buying a previously owned S2000 with very low miles. I'm wonding if there are any significant differences in the years. Any particular good or bad years? Any info on performance, problems, etc. by year would be appreciated. Thanks.
any problems should have been fixed-
i would take any car to the dealer to check out the condition as well as the status of the tsbs (technical service bulletins)... if the car is in great shape and all tsbs handled, any year should be fine, imo.

Ok buddy. Here's the absolute truth on the matter. You have 3 divisions of the S2000. The 2000-2001 = A, 2002-2003 = B, and 2004 =C.
HP: A = B = C
Torque: A = B and A < C
RPMs: A = 9000, B = A, B - C = 1000
Liters: A + B = 4.0, A = B, C - B = 0.2
Suspension, where greatest is tightest: A > B > C
Tire Diameter: C = (2 x 8) + 1, C - 1 = A, A = B
There you go.
There you go.

really wanted the glass rear window. also wanted the all red int. which only came in 02 models.
00-01.
+ a bit more raw, original suspension geometry and rates.
+ available with colored seats -- without the nasty looking colored dash or cheap leather on the center console.
- plastic rear window
- More documented issues (although some still occur in 02 cars)
02-03.
+ glass rear window
+ new ECU (some claim a few hp, I've never seen it proven)
+ improved stereo (still worthless in the grand scheme of things)
- a bit softer around the edges
04 cars.
+ more torque (all 10lb feet)
+ revised interior and exterior bits
- softer all around
- no 8900 RPM's

SixtyOneF, since you are looking for a used S I would imagine you're targeting earlier years but I thought I'd correct a couple wrongly stated comments from above for you just in case:
C has more HP at every point throughout the entire powerband (including peak)
04 has higher spring rate in front (approx 7% stiffer than 03)
Good luck with your purchase.

how do you figure? not trying to be defensive, but it would seem you're just as biased about your MY as an 02-03 owner would be, or an 04 owner.
