I really don't get the porche thing. their cars have looked basically the same for about 40 years, and the S looks nothing like one. How can one get them confused?
Forum posters always seem to forget that the majority of the world isn't made up of enthusiasts of whatever the discussion forum is about. For most people cars are appliances.

I don't. The S doesn't have any of BMW's styling cues (new or old).

Me: "Honda S2000"
Him: "hmm ok, it's like a Civic right?"
Me: " No, it's a Honda S2000"
Him: "Ok, a 2000 Honda.... what?, what's it called?"

Saleslady: "So what do you drive now?"
Me: "A Honda S2000"
Saleslady: "Ohh, well this is definitely a step up from that"
Me: "Uhh... yeah, I mean the S2000 is a little bit sharper handling-wise but this has more power for sure"
Saleslady: "Well yeah that's because Honda doesn't make V6's, this is a V6"
Me: "Really? Hmm yeah well mine is 4 cylinder"
Saleslady: "S2000, that's like a Civic right?"
Me: "I'll show you it's right over here"

*pulls into neighboring Honda dealer lot where my car is waiting to be picked up after a service*

Saleslady: "That's a HONDA?"

Pretty sure she liked my car better than the Z
I had a similar conversation when buying my Z. The sales guy was telling me what a step up the Z was going to be from the Honda. He kept telling me how much more powerful the Z was going to be... I was like "errrrrrr....no"

This is the comment that I want to write an essay on. lol. I know people, mostly in my family that drive brand new SLs, TTs, g37s, and still they dont know $#######hit about it. My cousin with the TT didnt know its a 4 cylinder with a turbo and that her car is fwd until after a year of ownership, I came home and opened the hood for the first time in front of her. She doesnt even know wtf fwd is. lmao..

So ya, not everyone in this world is people for whom these forums are, and people who are in these forums. And I am the type of person the makes the person sitting next to me freak out because every other car I see on the road, there is 90% chance that I will start a topic about that car and go on for like half an hour. lol
