Just for the record, if you're getting 300 miles to a tank, you're only getting between 24-26mpg.

I was thinking the same thing... I went 294 miles on 11.3 gallons last fill up = 26 MPG

Well, I meant based off the fact that I was always only filling up 10 gallons before I hit empty, but you're right haha!

Your fuel pump is not able to suck up every last drop of gas in the tank (this is true for most any car) so the engine will stall for lack of fuel before the tank is completely empty. Depending on the angle of the tank as you are driving uphill/downhill the fuel pump can get to the point where it is unable to pump any more fuel with varying amounts of gas left in the tank. This is where a lot of people get confused and make ignorant "miles per tank" statements when referring to their gas mileage as if it is giving them any real indication of their gas mileage. Just fill up your tank when the low fuel level light comes on (or before) and stop straining your brain about where the last gallon of gas went.

I've only ever let the fuel light come on once during my entire four years owning the car... That was a 11 gallon fill up for me.

For my car, I've found that what my trip meter says when the fuel light comes on, is roughly my MPG when I fill up. So if I'm at 27X miles when the fuel light comes on, I'll usually ses 27ish mpg when I fill up and do the calculation.

I don't remember ever putting more than 11.5 or so in the tank.
