Ran out of gas about 1/4 mile from a gas station one time, couldn't restart it but after an hour of trying, was able to feather it back to life and take it to the gas station and I filled up with 12.6 gallons. Looks like im winning so far!

sounds like 12+ gallons is the biggest fill up so far... so where the hell is the other gallon?!
Your fuel pump is not able to suck up every last drop of gas in the tank (this is true for most any car) so the engine will stall for lack of fuel before the tank is completely empty. Depending on the angle of the tank as you are driving uphill/downhill the fuel pump can get to the point where it is unable to pump any more fuel with varying amounts of gas left in the tank. This is where a lot of people get confused and make ignorant "miles per tank" statements when referring to their gas mileage as if it is giving them any real indication of their gas mileage. Just fill up your tank when the low fuel level light comes on (or before) and stop straining your brain about where the last gallon of gas went.
whoa... what a buzz kill. guess i'll just go sit in the corner and wait for my fuel light to come on.

Good idea

Just for the record, if you're getting 300 miles to a tank, you're only getting between 24-26mpg.
I was thinking the same thing... I went 294 miles on 11.3 gallons last fill up = 26 MPG
Yup, coming back from the dragon; 303 miles @ 12.2 = 24.8mpg

Ya, bad idea and I almost burned up the fuel pump trying to get it started again to get it to a gas station. Never again.

Maximum fill up: 11.12 gallons
Lowest MPG: 17.7
Best MPG: 25.3
Average MPG: 20.4

I've sure that I've gotten better than 25.3 MPG, but I haven't done a full highway tank since I started tracking.

had my car sputtering and almost die coming back from the metro area once. Was about 5:30 in the morning when I passed through one rural town and the gas station wasnt open yet, so I think "yeah, I might be able to push it a bit more"

about 3 miles from the next station the car nearly dies on an upward grade. Baby it to the flats, then punch it to gain speed and then coast as much as possible to the next station. Was about 10 till 6am then. They opened at 6 so I had to sit there for 10 minutes waiting.
