Default What's this green stuff?

Hey Guys,

I've got this green stuff that just appeared on the right side of the engine. It looks like the corrosion you get on the battery sometimes but I just wanted to check to see if you guys have seen this before in this area.

What do you think is creating this and what might prevent it in the future?

It's even on the hose clamps, etc. Weird.

Not sure exactly where that hose runs, but it looks like coolant after it has dried up. I'll go look under the hood of my S and see where the lines go, but I'm almost positive that it is coolant. I bet that hose and clamp have just worn over time and its seeping out at a slow rate. Like I said, I will go double check where those lines run and get back to you.

Just my 2cents
Dustin

My first thought is coolant as well. I am fairly certain that those are the coolant lines too. Make sure the overflow tank is not too low or you'll put air in the system, fyi.

There is also a bleed valve for the coolant on the intake manifold right there . make sure it is tight .

Probably coolant leaking. Turn the engine on for a few minutes and watch in that area and see if you can find the leak.

the first thing to see, other than the green crap, was the non-oem clamp on that line where the green stuff is, that clamp is immediately suspect...

I would say coolant, but that is bluish isn't it? I had a coolant leak when I installed my K&N FIPK a month and a half ago.
You replace the 3-prong pipe line when you install the K&N, I bought mine slightly used and missing the coolant line, first I bought one from o'reileys, it leaked, then I went to another o'reileys, and he was like hmm... well, this fuel line fits, it sure is a strange size, but this fuel line tube should work perfectly.
I would replace the whole tube if I were you since that sure isn't a clamp that should be there, but try tightening the clamp first and drive the car a mile and check if it is wet.
If you need to replace the hose it will cost ya about $1.50.

Below is my engine bay back when it was 100% stock.
You can see that there are some differences in the clamps used on your hoses, and the way the metal pipes are oriented.
My assumption is that you got the car used, the previous owner had an aftermarket intake, and they didn't put all the OEM stuff back properly.

The little hose with lots of green gunk on both ends carries coolant - looks like one of the clamps (both of which are the wrong kind, btw) is loose. I can't tell you exactly how, but you need to put things back properly, clean it all up, and make sure you top off your coolant overflow reservoir if necessary.

Awesome, thanks for the help guys! I think I'll just find someone parting out their car and just get that section to go back to 100% oem.
