Car batteries tend to last longer when it's always fully charged. If you car is a daily driver, It's not unusual for it to last over 6 years. If your car is a garage queen and the battery gets drained all the time, it can last as short as 2 years.

Hey, thanks for the great replies. 6 years for the original battery seems pretty incredible to me. My car is a daily driver. Maybe my battery is just getting broken in
And yes, this thread was an oldie but a goodie. I am glad it was updated a bit.

IndianRiverS2k, since you dug up this old thread, have you looked at the current thread about batteries? It shoud be on the same page as this thread.

The battery question gets asked quite often (I may have started one myself), so there are a lot of old(er) threads on this subject. Good luck.

Just replaced mine last week five years (3 of them in FL) Yes hotter temps degrade the battery faster. And yes under the sticker there are caps, add distilled water, if your battery is not too far gone this will fix the problem. My water was low, I added H2O (just above the lead fins). This took care of it for a few months, but then replaced. There are not that many battery manufacturers in the US so just buy one, making sure it has the same or higher cold cranking amps.

Just for the record I am starting my 8th year on the original Panasonic maintenance free battery. I noted my water level has hit the "red" marker and is at the lowest level line when shinning a light through it. I was wondering if I had to open up all the cells to fill it or if I could use the larger "eye" hole? There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on that one yet.
