What's the point in getting bolt ons?

I beat a turbo civic in my mom's 05' Pathfinder. My stock S has beaten LT1 Trans Am's and 3 valve Mustang GTs and they sure did respect my car after that....so i don't need a turbo right now.

Anyways back on topic. I think it all boils down to the fact that people like to personalize their stuff, especially their cars. I have a Mugen exhaust on my car, for no other reason other than the fact it looks awesome and sounds even better. I think it was worth it, despite getting minimal [if any] gains out of it.
Now I can definitely see why someone wouldn't want to spend 1200 bucks on an exhaust that doesn't provide any gains, but to me it's not about "sounding fast". I think most people get exhausts that just sound good are because the driver is the person that has to listen to it the most, NOT the people you drive by for 3 seconds. Lord knows everyone would love the performance gains of a single 70mm, but not eveybody wants to put up with the noise.
come spring i will have I/H/E/Tune/4.44's (have all parts and started installs but got too cold to finish).
personally, the reason why i did it is because i like to tinker with things. cars, computers, phones, etc. I have a bunch of friends who are into modding their cars, and i enjoy getting together with them whether i'm helping them with their cars or if their helping me with mine. I completely agree that going FI or nitrous is the best way to see gains in straight line, but i liked the idea of just picking up random things here and there and spending more time tinkering under the hood.

Apparently this thread is about you.
S2000 was not made for the tuner. It was a representation of Honda's technology and F1 history. Plus they wanted to make a really cool car that was fast (back then). That is about the end of the line. this car is supposed to be a collectors car, enthusiast car, vintange car, what ever you want to call it, but it is the S2000.
No other Honda has ever been made this way just like the NSX. You cannot bring it down to the leauge of young guys modding and street racing. Who cares about what they think. We all know what it is and why its here. It by no means is here to be the saturday night drag racer these kids want it to be. Its an icon to me...........That being said.
You CAN mod it and F/I it and make it a beast. Was it supposed to have 400whp? no, but I can do that if I want. Its my car. N/A seems to be a big hill to climb since honda did not mean to have this engine do more then 120/hp per liter. Yea its a waste if you ask me to build N/A, but each to his own. Wheather its modded or not this roadster is still going to be admired years from now after the production stops in 2005.

Why even buy an S2000? Why not buy a Hyundai Sonata and some driving school and you will be just as fast as the average person in an S2000?
OP...why turbo an S2K? What's the point of making 400 whp in an S2K when you are still slower than STOCK Cobras and Z06's and A LOT slower than modified Evo's/STI's etc.?
Shit...why even mod a car at all? Why not just buy a Gixxer 1000 and be faster than 99% of what's on the road anyway?

Wow... watch inline pros s2000's. That is like telling you not to mod your EG.
I completely forgot to add this... stock z06 runs what again? Very fast times right? I dont know, but mabey I was imagining this then.

Don't give me none of that bull that its just a stock 7.0 liter engine. I have just as much respect for the Corvette, I used to own one and loved it.

I can completely relate. I used to own a WRX that put down 300whp because of the right bolt ons. My Evo IX put down more hp than the WRX with lesser bolt ons. The S2000 on the other hand is a completely different hobby entirely. I'm very careful about what parts I purchase for the car. As nice as the bolt-on's may look under my hood, it just doesn't make any sense. The gain is pretty much negligible. What I enjoy most about this car is not how fast it goes on a straight line, but how well it handles in the twisties. That's where my money is going to. That and aesthetics. But that's just because I have a weakness for good looking cars.
That being said, you guys won't see a $1000 exhaust on my car. No offense to those who's purchased expensive parts. The performance gains just isn't there.
