What's the point in getting bolt ons?

IMO people should mod wheels/tires/suspension before power because that is what the S is all about
I agree with this completely. Wheels/suspension and aesthetics I can definitely understand. You could argue that exhaust is aesthetic to some degree, but you could also go to a welding shop and fab up a nice exhaust for 300 bucks instead of pouring 800-1000 on one.

I do want to point out that I'm not ragging on anyone for making their car how they want - hell that's what I did with mine (my mods are in a link in my signature). I just wanted some feedback on why some people are so set on getting that new exhaust system or intake right after buying the car and spending up to 3 months of car payments on something that only makes their car sound different.

And to the questions asking why wouldn't I just buy a 500 hp car to begin with - I can't exactly afford that so I got the nicest car I could afford and did the work on my own.

[QUOTE=afwfjustin,Jan 28 2008, 11:54 PM] Here's another question for you "sound" modders: If you wanted to hear the car moreso, why don't you just take the airbox lid off?

Why would you do a mod knowing it will decrease power when there are plenty of simple intakes that make power. I assume you will be starting a thread about changing the speakers and adding amps and head units to make the music sound better. When everyone says it is pointless in a convertible. I did all of the mods I did because I wanted to, I could care less what other people think about it.
^If you "could" care less than you do somewhat care because you're saying that there is room to care less than you do already

If taking off airbox lid is -5hp, and adding an intake is +3 (I'm being generous), I'd say that the 8hp difference would still not be worth 200+ dollars. You're still at a place between the two cars where the faster shifter is going to win.

that's a 2hp difference btw. -5 + 3 = 2.

Tires, Sway bars, better fluids and brake pads make for tremendous gains in an auto x /track situation. It's better to concentrate on the suspension / tires than the engine to make this car faster around the corners.

Taking the airbox lid off was only worth -1hp, dyno proven on my car. -1 hp is worth it thought b/c it sounds so yummy on my otherwise stock car.

Ummm.....back to basic math 098. The difference between -5 & +3 is 8.

actually, bolt ons can make the s2k quite a bit faster if done right

build motor for NA and bolt ons can see some power

power as in 25-50whp

which is a lot on an s2k

the ASM s2k laps only half a second slower with bolt ons and built motor making 275whp, than the 600whp turbo s2000 does.

56.5 sec vs 57

you dont need power to be fast

js racing s2000 is 320 at the crank NA, which is around 285 maybe at the wheels? give or take like 15hp?

[QUOTE=afwfjustin,Jan 28 2008, 03:50 PM] I'm only making 400 rwhp right now because I don't have a 100 dollar AEM boost solenoid; that is the only thing stopping me from boosting above my 9psi spring and 2psi t-fitting.

I took my air box lid off to see what everyone else heard and it was pretty good sounding except i could hear a whine from it. it maybe was caused because i block the resonator on the airbox. it got to be really annoying justdriving around.
