When driving aggressively
There is no event where you will need to stay in VTEC for more than the time that you need to accelerate... why would u even wanna stay over 5k rpm in any gear and drive like that? Of course the engine is going to wear... don't u get tired faster when you're running instead of walking? Don't be lazy, downshift when you need to and stay in 5th-6th on the highway.

I guess you've never Auto-x'd the car nor taken it on a twisty road for an aggressive drive. If you had, you're not in vtec for a majority of the time, then you are not driving the car correectly. The doesn't even begin to make power till vtec....that's how you accelerate out of the turn. Again, if you have good oil running in your engine, then you don't need to worry about parts wearing down.
Whatever you do, don't vtec in the rain!
I rev past 6k quite often. The majority of the time, I use high revs for a brief amount of time. There is no point in holding 5,500-6,000 revs or more in third gear when I could be at around 4,500 or so revs. There are times that I do not want to be at the higher revs in a 45-55 mph corner because I am putting down sufficient power to the ground. Sometimes being in too low of a gear will put too much power down increasing the chance of the tires breaking adhesion.
A racetrack is a whole other ballgame. From the time I begin to accelerate off of a corner, until the time I am braking at the end of the straightaway, I am at, or above 6k rpm's all the time. There may be a scenario where I am at maximum speed for a given corner and also close to max engine revs. I really don't want to lift off the throttle and select the next highest gear for fear of upsetting the balance of the car until it is straightened out enough to do so. This could mean holding the revs at around 9,000 rpm's. The only other time I would hold max engine revs for any length of time, is if I was maxed out in 5th gear going 140 mph.
On a road other than a racetrack, depending on the layout of the road, I would never hold high rpms as I find no benefit in doing so. Keep in mind, there is no stop watch from point A to point B on a twisty public road.
I am not into putting excess wear on my engine to gain 2/10's of a second that I will not even know about
I'd rather just throw her into 4th gear
