Default Acceleration Cut Out at High Revs

Hey guys,

Just took my 2000 S2000 out for a spin and while revving up to 9000 rpm in 1st gear, the engine pretty much stopped accelerating and became jerky - I had to put it into 2nd straight away and it was alright.

I had just taken it out and the engine was completely cold - I hadn't warmed it up or anything, and I was going up a reasonably steep hill - would this be a normal reaction?

Just want to make sure everything's alright.

When cold, the engine won't enter in VTEC. You need 3 bars on the Temperature gauge to rev up.

Aha .. so how many revs can I legitimately rev up to when the engine temperature is under 3 bars?

I would say below Vtec around 5900. The oil needs to be heated which is not marked on the cluster. It's not healthy(for engine) to spank the car before hitting 3 bars.

Adam,

Try this. Wake up at 3AM, put on your sneakers and then run up about 6 flights of steps. When you get to the top of the steps sit down and think about what you're asking your car to do.

Disrespectful.
