when fuel is lit how many gallons left?

The gas light came on and there were no bars left. I drove 28.8 more miles after the light came on. When I filled out the tank, it only came to
12.39 gallons.
Got 300 miles on the tank and a total of 24.6 MPG this fillup. Mostly city and some highway crusiing.
