Here is the sad truth gentlemen.....
If you want anything that comes close to the fix you get driving your S, you'll need to nearly double up on the pricetag.

It's getting around that time... the S is my wife's car, although we both drive it pretty much equally. It's got 82K miles on it or so now, and while that's certainly not horrible, I confess to being a new car junkie. At about the 3 year mark, I start itching for something different.
What I'd replace it with, however, is a tough call. The other household car is a WRX, which will suffice as baby transport should one arrive. I'd really love to keep a convertible around, but refuse to spend more than $25K on a car (the S was bought used for $12k... !)... so maybe a new Miata. I owned one a few years ago, and aside from being down a bit on power, it was a blast.
Or maybe a Cooper S convertible... that's actually got 4 seats, which would be handy with a little one.
Then again, I've got a 60 mile one way commute, so something fun yet comfy and quiet might be nice too... maybe an Acura TSX.
Basically, I have no idea

Dusty, buddy... Take this from an old fart who really knows... You will need your playtoy when your little one(s) arrive. Don't give up the sports car for the kids -- I believe you'll regret it and ultimately blame them for this sacrifice.
If I had it to do over again, as much as I love the little tax exemptions, I'd have made more time for myself and for my wife and me than I did over the years. A little top-down motoring is a fantastic stress reliever when you need to escape from the day-to-day grind of raising a family.
That said, obviously, the S will not do as a family car. You need an additional set of wheels.

I'm 26 and married and we're hoping for a kid soonish. I will not be giving up the S. My wife has been informed of this and is ok with it. We pay her car off in less than 1.5 yrs, at that time, I will have more dispensible income and probably pick up a just-out-of-warranty Pathfinder 4x4. I figure it can pull quadruple duty. 1. Buy a <$1000 car trailer and it tows the S to meets (thus the need for a 'truck').
2. 4 doors and room for kid stuff. (Daily commuter, thus the need for 'SUV truck').
3. Beater to get to work. (Keep miles off the S, thus avoiding American trucks...sorry, no offense to American manufacturers, but foreign gas mileage is sooo much better.)
4. 4x4 without warranty to play in the mud. (Because if you've never been off-roading, it's actually quite fun! It does tend to void warranties, thus getting a truck out of warranty.)
I am gonna keep my S and pass on to my kids when they are old enough to drive... (I dont have any kid yet). My wife and I are getting the accord hybrid next year for our daily and future family function (if any kid arrive).
Before I picked up my S, I test drove the STI, EVO, RX8 and 350Z and M3. I think I will go with RX8 if they come out with a faster one (MAZDA Speed version). M3 or EVO if my wife demand another 4 doorer. But I dont want to part my S2k for anything... If honda bring us another S2k of any sort then I will definetly give those a shot first...
