Sunoco 94 Octane FTW!

Only because it is the cheapest known brand available on my way to work.

Exxon cost 10 cents more with less Octane Grade. This reminds me to cancel my speed pass...

I have always believed that most of the alleged differences between brands of gasoline are unprovable nonsense, but I have personally encountered one clear difference:

When I lived in California and drove a somewhat-modified mustang with seriously aggressive timing (+18 degrees), my car would not tolerate Arco gas. Identical octane numbers (whatever was highest, I forget whether it was 93 or 94) did not translate into identical behavior: I'd knock with Arco, but be fine with everything else (even the generic stuff). I do not know why this occurred, but I know that it did.

Shell sucks. You notice the difference with boost and also on my bike with 12.4:1 compression. I hear a slight knock on my bike sometimes as well from some Shell stations. I don't think their additives burn slow enough.

Chevron & Mobile for me.

no diff in the gases. biggest diff i notice in performance is influenced by ambient temp... cool days = nice!

i try to avoid exxon/mobil and buy from chevron for personal reasons (work in oil industry and have certain biases)

though when the light comes on i get whatevers closer

For all you Shell doubters, Top Gear did a comparison of three major Brands. They were BP, Shell, and I think Exxon (Not sure about the 3rd). Anyway, they did comparison on a dyno of different fuel grades in different type vehicles. The one of note was the performance car, an STI as I recall, and it actually gained HP/TQ with the Shell gas over BP. Granted this was in England, but both are Brithish companies anyway so it probably translates the same here. Either way, I was impressed. Sorry I couldn't find a link for the episode, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that saw it on the board.

Shell FTW!
