Default Whipple charger?

Has anyone had any experience with this type of supercharger?

I just heard about it from a friend, and skimming over some web pages it seems like there might be some potential...

A Whipple is a Lysholm compressor. Used on the Mazda Millenia and I think on some new AMG Mercs.

A Lysholm compressor uses internal compression versus the external compression of the Roots style. This makes the Lysholm more efficient than a Roots blower even though Eaton Roots blowers have narrowed the gap.

However, since a Lysholm is an internal compressor it can not be easily "turned off" while cruising like the Eaton blowers with their vaccum actuated bypass (this was true the last time I checked). If the compressor runs 100% of the time fuel efficiency drops drastically. Usually a Lysholm bypass is similar to an A/C compressor in that it uses an electromagnetic clutch attached to the compressor pulley. There are other bypass methods but they are complex.
