I already did a search but could not find if you could apply the TSB 055 fix on the 01 models. Mine grinds intermittently, and it doesn't seem to matter what rpm I shift it at. It would just randomly grind whether it be at higher rpms or lower rpm shifting.

How many other 01 owners are experiencing the problem, and have you had your car to the dealer to get the TSB 55 fix done without much hassle? I am thinking of taking mine in soon if the grinding doesn't go away.

I don't race the car, and I am sure the clutch is being depressed all the way when shifting. I dunno if I have bad luck but my Si did the same thing every so often but only under high rpm shifting so I dunno if it's a Honda thing..

no no problems here... I've had a few grinds here and there, but it's driver error, such as having an off day on timing. Occationally I will let the clutch out a tad to early...

I to have had the problem in second and third gear. I haven't done anything about it because frankly, I'm in denial. Not sure if it was me or the synros? But mine is a 2001 model. I've read the latest CAR and DRIVER magazine, and it expresses that the 2002 s2000 will have an upgraded stereo, new color, glass window, and a "stouter transmission". However I don't know exactly what that refers to. Maybe a smooter shifter, different fluid, or different syncros. Hope I could help

My '01 has ground a few times, 3 or 4?, when the trany is really hot from a fast run. Once cooled off it is fine again.

Dealer told me that TSB could apply to those earlier built 2001 models. I grinded my gears couple of times but it was the driver's error....

I certainly have experienced the 2nd gear grind. It only seems to occur at or above 7000 from first to second gear on my 2001. 2nd thru 6th are rifle bolt quick even if the cluth not pinned to the floor. When I shift from 1st to 2nd at or above 7000rpm> Im countin' freagin' Missippi's when I shift, to make darn sure I dont grind. The red rocket is at 7000 miles and after going for scheduled service at 4000 miles, I saw no shavings/residue when the used diff fluid was drained and poured out of the catch bottle. I've driven many performance cars....many to thier limits and have never experienced this exact symptom.
Its still the best shifter on the market for less than 6 figure price point cars IMHO.

Yea, if I give it a couple seconds for the syncros to bring the gears up to speed, there is no grinding. But with the shifter being so short, by reflex, as soon as I hit that clutch pedal, I quickly shift into second gear causing it to grind sometimes. This happens even if I have been holding the clutch down for a lil bit. Guess I have to just wait between the 1-2 shift.

I just find it funny that this doesn't occur with any of the other gears.. *knock on wood*.

I may just wait it out until it gets really bad because I'd rather not be stuck in a rental car for a week.

No grinding, but I have begun to feel that my tranny is a bit clunky from 1st to 2nd. Maybe it's just me. I'll have a friend drive it and tell me what he thinks. I thought the TSB for the 1-2 grind did not apply at all for MY 2001.

I've got an '01 & have had the 1-2 grind problem. Always when I'm either really punching it (high rpm) or sometimes when I've been at highway speed for a long time, come off the exit ramp, and just shift 1-2 normally. Been to 3 dealers, who all say I'm not covered under the TSB. The first couple times I could have admitted to bad shifting. Now I'm positive it's something more.

Good luck -- let me know if you get any resolution.

I have a 2001, purchased in Jan., born in October; don't know if this is considered "early" model or not.

Just in the last week I have experienced what MAY be an extreme expression of the 1-2 grind:

hard acceleration, high rpm (7-8K) shifting from 1st to 2nd - it doesn't even freakin' want to go into 2nd gear!!!!!!!! This is somewhat disconcerting to have happen under these conditions Of course, there is a grinding noise and what I have done these two times is get it in neutral... by this time revs have dropped, speed has dropped and it goes into 2nd no problem. Car was "hot" both times I believe... 20 miles highway, followed by couple of miles stoplight traffic.

I'm not ruling out driver error, but I have almost 10K miles on the car and it's happened twice for the first time in this short period of time.

If it keeps occuring, I will see what the dealer says.
