Who here with a 2001 S2k is having grinding issues?
That is the thing that pisses me off. If I haven't driven the car on the freeway, and I have been doing all street driving at moderate speeds, I can redline it and shift as quick as I can with no grind. But after driving at higher speeds on the freeway, as soon as I get back onto a normal road and go from 1st to 2nd at ANY rpm, it grinds unless I go from 1st, wait then shift to 2nd. I don't understand it but since it is intermittent like that, I'm gonna wait it out.
My '01 grinds often going into 2nd gear only after winding out 1st. I know it is NOT poor technique (yeah, I know, must be too fast a shift anyway) and I think it is getting a bit worse (more regular) at 5K miles.
The other gears are wonderful but i admit I rarely wind out 2nd before hitting 3rd. National speed limit is just too low...

Like some others have said, I guess it goes with the territory of high output cars. I am happy with my car so far and can look past the grind as I can probably train myself to not speed shift from 1st to 2nd.
This is my 5th Honda, going from an 86 Accord, 90 Accord (still running with 265,000 miles on the original engine and tranny), 99 Civic, 00 Civic Si, to this car. With all my past Honda's, with exception of the 86, I have had awesome gas mileage and reliability which is probably why I have kept purchasing Hondas, while my father has kept purchasing Toyotas. Both excellent car companies!
So far, with about 2k miles logged on it in 3 weeks, it has been a blast and has had no more problems than my Si had in the first two weeks I owned it. The Si had both a 2nd gear grind AND an annoying 5th gear grind. The 5th gear grind seemed to resolve itself after a few more thousand miles. Talk about wierd..
Although I don't plan to take my car in for the grind anytime soon, I contacted my friend at Scott Robinson Honda anyway to find out if they would perform the TSB 55 repair and will keep you guys posted on the results of that.

Interesting...
I own a 01 Spa Yellow S2k and a supercharged modded 94 NSX with a 99 6-speed in it. BOTH cars occassionally grind when redline shifting 1st to 2nd. It's actually worse on the NSX (my redline 8500) than the S2K. I thought about replacing the synchros in the NSX but given that I do most of my aggressive driving on the track and I'm never in 1st gear....
Of the two trannies, the S2K is definitely the one I prefer. The throws are short and the shifting very precise.

I also experience notchy 1-2 shifts, especially when the gearbox is cold.....however, it's the 2-3 shift that worries me. It happens less frequently and is not really a grind, but I definitely can feel a kick-back prior to the lever fully going into gear.
I have gotten the grind around 6 times. I have 5,000 miles on the car, so it hasn't bothered me that much. I keep thinking it is driver error, but I am starting to think it is the car. If it keeps it up, then I will take it to the dealer. It seems to do it only under high rpm's and I get it from 1st to 2nd only.
My car is three weeks old '01 delivered new, now with 2000 miles. I have had the 1-2 grind twice due to driver error when red-line shifting. It appears to me that the 1-2 synchro's are not able rev match the transmission if you move the shifter too fast or if you don't fully press the clutch pedal down. I have slowed down my 1-2 shift and so far have not had further problems.
I would take it to the dealer right away and fix the problem. My
01 S was doing the same 1st to 2nd grind and I kept ignoring it
till it got worst . I couldn't even put it in to 6th gear no more! My
cars been sitting at the dealer for two weeks now, they're still
working on it . The whole tranny is getting overhauled with only
10,000 miles on the car!!!!!

But as long as I do pause between 1st and 2nd, it goes in nice and smooth.
