I'm sure Rick's console cover is a quality accessory and I've read nothing but good things about it. However, I LIKE the factory carpet center console. I think it adds character to the interior. IMO Its more sporty and no-nonsense with the "raw" carpet showing. I know its completely mental, but with the carpet right under my arm, I feel even closer to the road, like I'm sitting in the floorboard. In fact, this feeling is one of reasons I love the car so much. It just seems to be a shame to cover the feeling up with leather. So am I alone here?? Or am I just the last guy to come around? Just something that's been on my mind

Right there with you - I like the carpet. I think the "leather" console covers look IMO kinda cheap and tacky. But, to each his/her own! I do notice that my dogs' hairs tend to collect there!

I might would have liked it if it was real carpet. It is little more than some thin fuzz on canvas. This is left over Yugo rejected carpet. In the floor it is not so bad, but up high on the console in the sun light it looks sooo CHEAP and is (WAS) embarrassing.

i like the carpet center so much better than those covered up ones-
in fact i don't like the "leather" covered console at all!

i was considering an '02 model after my '01's gone, but i can't stand the fact that it has that covered console stuff. (and the glass rear... but that's another story.)
