Why can't our car sound more like a Ferrari? What makes those cars sound so F1 like? I would buy an exhuast even if it lost a few hp if it would even sound close. The last thing I want is a car that sounds v-8ish.

Because it's not a Ferrari.

It has to do with displacement and number of cylinders. Count the number of combustions per second.

in respect to the sound of the s2000,I like it BUT I wonder
how it would sound with a K&N filter.I also have a
GSR with a K&N and I feel the integra shows a definitive
sound when going into Vtec while the S2000 does not.Reading
the boards I hear most people talking about going into Vtec
and how wild it is and although I do feel a surge it is
nothing like my integra w/k&N.I not talking speed here, the
s2000 is much faster but the thrill of that Vtec transition
[via sound] is not there for me.I'd be interesred in hearing
other people thoughts.

I have mugens exhaust, and it's very close to f1 sounds at 6500 rpm and above, especially in tunnels. I'll try to record a few passes.

Doesn't it have to do with the way the 'V' is angled that
gets that distinctive growl? I read this somewhere a few
days ago but forgot where!

Redtoy,

The GS-R VTEC transition point is 4300-4500 RPM, and this change is both quiet and barely noticable. I do hear and feel the secondary intake runners open at 6000 RPM. I'm speaking from experiance here, we've had/have 3 GS-Rs, '94,'97,'99 and the S2000. The engine in the S2000 has four short straight runners without the variable volume intake so it will sound different.

Regading the K&N, I have one in the stock airbox and the car sounds the same.

From what I've read, the Modena has a flat crank so it's pretty much like two inline fours mated at the crank. Maybe I'm deluding myself, but to me this interior video of a 360 sounds exactly like an S2000.
