why can't our car sound...
Thanks viscreal for the info, I would greatly appreciate a sound clip of your mugen ex. Not that there is anything wrong with the way the factory exhaust sounds, its just that if your going to spend big $ on an aftermarket exhaust that prob won't make much hp...you might as well buy something that has a kick ass sound that you don't hear everyday. It would be nice to have something that does not sound like your tipical rice and one that commands respect from every living creature with ears. Those ferrari Best Motoring videos make me poo myself every time I watch/listen to them. Trust me Black s2000...if I had unlimited fundage I would own a 360 or a 355 and a Zanardi edition NSX for my vtec addiction. By yall
thats what I've heard too...
its also interesting to note how much nicer the IRL cars sound with the newer formula that includes the flat crank... The previous formula sounded like high revving NASCAR cars...
the new formula has a much nicer tone to it...

[B]From what I've read, the Modena has a flat crank so it's pretty much like two inline fours mated at the crank.

You pay for what you get I say! Well, depends on what car. In my opinion Vipers don't have a exotic sound at all, just the same sound you get from any US V8 sports car with an exhaust. Atleast from what I've heard Ferrari's especially the V12 and the watercooled Porsches sound the best. S2000 doesn't sound like the exotics at all, but you do have that aggressive distinct air intake rush sound when the VTEC kicks in.
I would respectfully disagree with Viscreal's description of the Mugen exhaust as being anything even CLOSE to an F1 sound. I LOVE the sound of the Mugen, but it's deeper and more mellifluous than the shrill higher pitched F1 engine/exhaust. If you want the F1 sound, you would be happier with the HKS, it's louder, it's higher pitched and raspy. The Mugen and the HKS couldn't be more distinct and both make beautiful noise...
In my opinion the Mugen exhaust sounds nothing like an F1 car. There is no scream, F1 cars scream. The Mugen is quiet and low pitched - I love it.
The GSR/ITR does have a great intake noise. My GSR has a AEM CAI and at 6000 when the secondary runners open it just growls. I love that noise.
The HKS is much more high pitched of an exhaust for the S2000 and in my opinion more F1-ish.
Ferrari's have some of the best exhaust notes out there. They also have 4 or 8 more cylinders to help make that sound. The S2000 will never really sound like an F1 or Ferrari, regardless of mods.

My personal opinion is that Vipers don't sound ANYTHING like a V8...
the GTS with the rear exhausts sounds somewhat unique (not too many 10cylinder cars around) but the side exhaust RT/10s sound like UPS trucks

A s2000 will never sound anything like a real F1 Car...we lack 8 clyinders, our engines cannot rev to 20,000rpms nor do we have the same displacement, etc.
What gives the ferrari its distint sound is a combination of arrangement and number of clyinders, displacement, revs, stroke, exhaust design, etc. The sound is one of the reasons why people drop 300k on these machines
