Why did you chose an S

My choices at the time were...
Suzuka Blue S2000
Blue 350Z coupe
Gray Mitsubishi Evo 8
Laguna Seca Blue M Roadster
Obviously, I went with the s2k due to it's lightweight body and high-revving engine, while still remaining fuel-efficient and reliable, as all Hondas are. I test drove a G35 a few days ago; I must say, it felt like I was driving a Murano in comparison to the S2K.

Always liked cars and when the engine is good, the car is good enough for me. After living with GTI's for a long time I bought a Peugeot 206CC vert with a 2.0L engine. Vert was nice but had some French electrical troubles with it. Sold it and bought an Audi TT Roadster 150HP. Not long after, sold the TT due to lack of power and went testdriving some car's with more powerfull engines. So I tested the Z4 2.5 and 3.0, The Boxster and Boxster S, the SLK Kompressor, the 350Z ans so on... I really wanted to stay wit the vert. Then I testdrove an S2000. In the beginning I didn't go beyond 6000rpm and I thought to myself why everyone admired that Honda engine that much, it was not faster than the GTI's with 150HP I got earlier. When the engine was warm I did a WOT start, VTEC kicked in at 6000rmp, I got a smile on my face, girlfriend tried to hang on in the passenger seat and I was S.O.L.D.! Not long after I ordered my S2000 that I adored since it's birth in 1999

So guys...what made you chose your S? Did you test drive anything else or just go straight for the Honda? What were your second choices if any?
I was shopping Boxsters, but I was on a used budget. I wanted a roadster, and was convinced the Boxster was it. My wife really liked the Z4, but I didn't like the styling.
In my price range, I was looking at an 00-03 Boxster base with 45-60k miles on it. The maintenance costs and reliability were factors that stuck in the back of my mind and I really couldn't shake it.
I stumbled on an old article on Edmunds.com that compared the Boxster to the S2000 to the Z4. The Honda came out on top, and that lead me to want to drive one.
I went to a close Carmax lot (Hillside for the Chicago ppl) and they had an 03 with 13k miles on it. I was impressed by the standards on it that weren't on the Boxsters of the same year. Namely HID projectors that were optional on the Boxster, and a glass rear window.
Then came the drive. The 9k redline was intoxicating. The Boxster launched better, but the Honda was just such a pure experience. As I read somewhere else on the internet: It's like a twinkie on rails.
I drove home in that car that day.

I had a 2000 Prelude previously. A friend was getting into wheel-to-wheel racing with his Prelude, and I was really intrigued by that idea. However, after doing many autocrosses and an HPDE or two, I decided that I didn't want to race a FWD platform. So, the search was on.
I looked at Miatas and enjoyed their handling, but I wanted something with more power. I looked at 350Zs and enjoyed their power, but I wanted something more nimble. So, that's exactly where the S2000 fit in. In hindsight, the RX-8 would've been a good consideration, too... but I was a little intimidated or put-off by the rotary engine.
My only complaint about the S2000 is that it's not available as a coupe. I know most people bought it for the convertible, but I absolutely hate convertibles (and the soft-top is nothing but a nuisance when trying to get into racing). Other than that, it was exactly what I was looking for.
As an aside, I was originally planning for the S2000 to be an "interim" vehicle until I could afford a 911. However, the S2000 fulfills all of the needs & desires that I was planning to fulfill with a 911 and does it at 1/3 the price... so the longing for a 911 is almost non-existent now.

Back in 2002, a buddy of mine let me drive his then new ap1 and it was love. Since that I have seeked that very driving dynamic, its simple goodness. So when it came time to get something with a lil more oomph to replace the civic, it came down to the my love (the Z, I'm a Nissan guy at heart) and the S. In the end, the S won.
The 9000 rpm limit, vtec, and sound of the engine is what sold me. The handling and softtop is of course a plus.
But after about 2 years of the S I'm starting to get sick of it. I am actively looking for a new car.
Well, unlike almost all the posts here, I was not even out shopping for a car when I got mine used. I was already driving an Accord and got used to the humdrum, mediocre, life draining, killjoy of an existence that a people mover like an Accord excels at. That is, until salvation came in the form of my friend deciding to sell his S after 7 years of ownership. The brash, raw, restless, adrenaline-junkie of a little brother that has so far been disowned was now about to return to the familial lineup and eventually take center stage and allow for the first time, a glimmer of hope that, maybe, just maybe, impracticality, irrationality and extremity are qualities to be held in the highest regard. Humdrum existence be damned, with every click into the next gear, arrived also a new found appreciation for all things primal in raw form and a sense that the evolution towards civility and comfort is all wrong. Your senses heighten, your coordination is now in the realm of art, your driving is now in hall of fame form. Nirvana was never this good, even though they spun out some nice tunes. Then of course, Monday hits, and you are back to being the good little nine to fiver living your life in quiet desperation...
