2001, I was into my new miata (had a 1990 also) and enjoying it. on the miata board there was a guy who i traded emails with now and then. He had a 2001 S and wanted to drive my new miata, he told me the S2000 was not the right car for him and he wanted to know more about miatas.

I was in the market for another car months later as the miata was pleaged with issues (#4 bearing prompted a whole new short block) 4 clutches, two sets of brakes, and a gas tank replacement amoung other things...it is nice to have a warranty with rental car but after a while it is more of a drag than benifit). the miata just ran great now and then and not often enough.

We met in a parking lot on a sat am. we talked and then he took my miata for a drive...nice car after 20 minutes he asked me if i wanted to drive his Honda. All I knew back then was they had 240 hp but no torque, and after all how good could such a bland looking car be?

I was amazed within 1 minutes when we hit an on ramp I was familar with...then he insisted i punch it and keep the throttle nailed past 6,000 rpm.....wonderful....i also noticed the cabin was more composed than my miata, it has roll bars, it has a usable trunk, etc...etc...etc....

I was sold but it took me another two years to get the Honda into my garage and then it was an AP2 not an AP1. I bought the car wihtout driving it...i knew it would be that good, I had read the reviews and understood the differences and had driven a new 2003 ap1....

I have never looked back in regret, this car has turned out to be amoung the best I have ever owned....going on 7 years now...I could replace it, but with what??? a used Boxster S, maybe 05 on, but then i would have to give up my honda. which is sooo great.

I wish they would make them again so I could upgrade to another....

My first car was a 1952 MG-TD; yep, the one with the wooden frame. I bought it for $400, rebuilt engine and transmission, painted it, replaced the top, added a heater, and then sold it for $400 when I bought a 1962 Corvette. I had that Corvette for a long time - this one had a heater but no a/c, and the solid rear axle made it mostly a muscle car. Both were fun to drive - I spent most of the time in each with the top off/down. I then went for too many years with "family" cars, but always had the itch to get back into a roadster.

My first daughter's car was a 1994 Acura Integra and it sure was fun to drive compared to my other "family cars". My middle daughter's first car was a 1998 Civic - manual transmission, sunroof, and even more fun to drive. When she handed that car down to my youngest daughter, she replaced it with a 2001 VW New Beetle (one of the biggest piles of crap I have ever owned). She thought it was cute and it was modest ok to drive, but maintenance (both mechanical and a deteriorating interior) was a nightmare.

Her boyfriend found a 2001 S2000, we looked at it, we bought it, and she went on Spring Break to Cancun. So I had the car for a week while she was on the beach. It was the most fun I'd had since those old roadsters; now this was A CAR!!! HOTDAMM!! And it was comfortable, reliable, handled far better, etc., etc., etc.

Three weeks later I put a deposit on a 2009 CR but after some soul-searching I decided that I was really a rag-top sort of guy. I found a 2007 Rio (nearly identical to my daughter's) with about 6k miles and the rest is history.

It's been pushing 100 degrees and humid lately so it's been in the garage. Can't wait for fall, winter, and spring. I drive it with the top down unless it gets below about 40 degrees, and even then sometimes.

It's just FUN!!!

And now I'm thinking about buying another S2000 (2008 or 2009, except I don't like the wheels) and just putting it in the garage to keep the hoarders from getting it. Ah well, maybe later.
