why do you modify?
markandconnie,
you bring up a really good topic. i think many of us forget why we do the things we do and might even go overboard sometimes. lots of times, people just want to show their individuality and if no one else has done it, that's reason enough.
does the aem v2 really save weight over stock? how much power does it add?

We modify because we are enthusiasts and we can never be satisfied with "stock". If we wanted a "stock" car we would have bought Buicks. We want more and when we get it we want more still.
As enthusiasts we pay very close attention to our cars and in doing so see areas we think can be improved (aesthetically, ergonomically or for performance) so we set about doing it. Non-enthusiasts don't pay any attention to their cars and are just happy if it runs. They don't seek improvement because they don't care. That's what makes us different from them.
It's not S2000 specific. That's why all car enthusiasts modify their cars in some respect even if that only means using a special oil or tires or some such. The extent you modify your car depends on you and there is no formula I know of to predict that.

what he said.all cars i've owned had one sort of mod or the other

i modify my car for it to have better performance and handle better.
but for some reason, the more i modify it the more it takes for me to keep it running fine. yet i keep on modifying it.
i guess for me it's the pursuit of perfecting my car. it's an addiction for me.

I won't speak for all but the reason this owner modifies his car is for the following.
1. To personalize
2. To perform
3. For show
4. To learn
But most of all for FUN!!!!..... Nothing like putting something new onto your car if your an enthusiast....
Everytime you put something new on your car it's like your driving a brand new car all over again. Whether it's a JDM badge or a Supercharger....they all make the car seem a little bit

For my M3, mods were for safety reasons (harness, brakes) and performance (race tires, lightweight wheels, upgraded suspension) to get faster lap times on the track.
For my S2000, I read the following articles:
Road&Track 5/2000 p.52
Car and Driver 8/2001 p.110
Sport Compact Car 6/2004 p.110
