Default Why are half shaft spacers so expensive?

Two little pieces of metal and some screws. The cheapest set is nearly 200 dollars. I understand that low demand parts that have a niche audience are going to fetch a higher price but come on now... we're talking about 2 little pieces of metal.

Anyone with a CAD machine should be able to fab some up, sell them for 50 bucks a set, and make a killing.

i dont see why Megan doesnt make spacers, they would probably sell them much cheaper to steal the market + still make a profit. perhaps you should try to contact them.

Got CAD?? Do it youself. Right grade aluminum and the machining time cost way more than $50. Don't play if you can't afford to pay.

Just my 2 cents

Not quite, when you make something like these little peices of metal you usually buy a large peice of metal making a couple of sets. After making a few sets and selling them, chances are they cost less then 50 dollars to make per set averaged.

I again highly doubt, those little peices of metal cost ~150 dollars to make (assuming 50 dollar profit).

Agreed. It's called R & D. How many pieces of aluminum will you mess up before you get it right? If the labor is sourced out it increases overhead. How many of us have a CNC machine sitting in our garages?

If these pieces were sold like Dell, I'm sure the price would drop dramatically. Unfortunately in this market, hot sellers are still considered niche products.

the one i have is ~$150,000.. it's a morbidelli author 400. i dont have any metal bits, but i can buy one for about $75-125 i believe.. im not sure if the dust collection system i have though will work with metal shavings

i dont know how much 4'x8' or 5'x10' slabs of aluminum cost... perhaps i can look into this and cut some spacers. i program in alphacam so i could easily design spacers that work. how many people would really be interested though?
