Why isn't the search feature being used?

I don't want to come across as being anti-newbie, since I've only been a member of this site since January myself, but it seems like of all the automobile enthusiast stomping grounds I've called home, this site has to own the largest collection of lazy new car owners I've ever come across. On a weekly basis, it seems the same questions are being asked time and time again. FI, "what type of CAI should I get," or "who makes dual exhausts" to "anyone make GT wings for our car?" yada...yada...yada. It's unbelievable.
Following my own membership, I compiled a list of important questions I had regarding the car and only posted them when the search engine did not provide me with the necessary information. Those instances were VERY rare.
I see questions being posted on a weekly basis that could be answered with only a few clicks of the mouse so I implore our members to use this feature because the site operators have done such a great job providing it. Some sites' search engines are horrible. It's gotten to the point where I don't even bother to answer the simple questions anymore because it's so frustrating. I can only imagine how the veterans feel. I'm not asking anyone to turn away and leave the uninformed in the dark, rather I'm hoping enough of us will respond with "search and you shall find" answers that after awhile, might help to convince the new owners (who refuse to use the search engine) that doing so should be their FIRST option and not their last. Again, my words aren't posted in anger, rather a nod in the direction that will provide the inquisitive with answers sooner rather than later. Type in "exhaust" for advanced search (titles only) and if there will be more than enough threads to answer most questions regarding this area of our car and you'll get those answers in a very timely fashion. You'll run out of hours before you run out of posts regarding AEM or INJEN intakes...

Thank you Russ, I did the same thing. I thought that this site was the promised land when I discovered it.

I read and searched before I thought that I knew enough to ask a question that hadn't been answered somewhere before. This kept me busy most of the five weeks that I was waiting for my car to get here. There is a wealth of information on this site just waiting for someone to discover it.

Happy hunting,
Bob

I agree. I get lots of email from people asking questions or looking for posts that could easily be found via the search engine. Many times I do the search and email them the URL to the right thread. I'm happy to do it, but is a bit annoying.

Yes it's boring when i come to this board i oftenly see the same questions
but if i don't want to loose my time with those questions i don't go in the topic and read the next one but if i can help somebody and i have the time, i do it and that's all.
Yes maybe some users are lazy, maybe some didn't find what they are looking for or maybe some users hope somebody found a new way to modify something that doesn't been talked about yet..There's could be a hundred reasons, so if you don't want to read always the same thing please don't read it ...nobody force you to do it !
Hope you will not be hangry about me !!

Not all newbies know what the search feature does or even that it's there. It only takes a first friendly reminder to get those people on the road. Also, the search engine here doesn't always get you what you want.

Use the search option.

I think it is perfectly fine that people ask questions that have been asked before, especially since the search function comes back with so many hits sometime. If I am at work and don't have a lot of time I'll ask a question and a lot of people on this board are pretty cool and will either answer it or tell me where to find the answer. If someone asks a common question and people get annoyed then just don't respond to the post. That's just my two cents.
