Why, for the love of God, WHY?!
Educate your passengers. I agree with Bay area. I educate all pasengers on slamming, not using window to close (ARGGGHHHHH) but using door handle, and even entering/exiting passenger side (lots of people tend to kick the exterior below door when getting in (double AARRRGHHHH!!!).

I didn't think I was alone here...! I mean, seriously, what would make a person think that such a small car and little lightweight door needs to closed with the force of Hercules?! I will, from now on, demonstrate to each new passenger and previously "offending" ones the exact procedure for gingerly closing the door. That's a good idea. But it's not like he's used to a big heavy car, he drives an Alero for crying out loud!

Maybe the last roadster he rode in was an old Triumph or MG or something that needed a good slam. Guess you could do the old "gentlemenly" thing and say - "wait, let me get the door for you!" He'll think you're really weird.
Well Greg. Not everyone appreciates a car like those who care greatly about there vehicles. I would have to say that most people slam passenger doors, hoods, and trunk lids. They must be so used to trucks, SUVs, and big American cars over the years that they feel the need to slam.
One thing you might try is making up a story before someone gets in the car like "The S2000 is fast in part because its very light. The doors for example are extremely light weight. I have to admit, it bothers me a lot because most people don't realize this and when they get in the car they pull the door closed with too much force and it slams very hard. I'm afraid it might damage something in the door."
Then maybe, just maybe, they will take it easy when they close the door.
But, in defense of civilians (as I like to call them), the door literally slams by itself without force by the weight of gravity alone. My wife gets out of the car and NOW she holds the door when she closes it so it doesn't slam since pulling into my garage we are on a slight hill. In the past, she would give it a little push and it would slam loudly. I complained and she no longer does that...but I realized that it wasn't a real forceful closing on her part.
I can just imagine how loud it must be if someone pulls it shut like a 1950's jeep door.

That's why I loved my 93 Legend coupe....you didn't even have to shut the door to latch it. Just gently close the door until it makes contact with the car, and an electric mechanism acutally pulled it closed.
In regards to the pressure resistance, the german cars are very sealed....maybe that's why my E36 M3 would slightly lower the window when opening and closing the door, after the door was closed, the window would automatically move up.
All this technology just to open and close a door....

Greg.. I know exactly where you are coming from. A friend gets in my car the other night and BOOM slams the door (maybe a 2.0 on the Richter scale). I almost wanted to go over and inspect for damage. I told him it's not necessary to slam the door as it closes very easily. He gets out of the car and BOOM slams the door again.
too many people slam my doors and it's so painful to me let alone the car...i can hear it screaming i tell you.
i had to break my girlfriend out of that habit of slamming doors...i've found even with car with heavy doors all you need is good follow through...my dad had a 82' buick park ave. electra back in the day...heavy ass car...and he would yell all the time about slamming the doors...a little follow through and the doors closed fine.
next pet peeve...people who slam the trunk...you barely have to push on it to close it all the way. so many people slam it closed like they were trying to get a huge spin on that wheel on the price is right. i hate that.
for those of you with wings on your trunk too don't you hate it when people open and close the trunk by the wing? am i just too anal? do i love my car too much? i think not
