Why are S2000's refered to as MY and then the year of the car?

I have never heard of that till i started posting on this site.

How do other sites desginate model year when discussing changes to a car throught it's life?

Ive never seen the term MY(year) outside of this board. i read and post on several other automotive boards for DSMs, EVOs, 350z, nsx, and a couple general ones, and no one uses "MY" to say model year. they just say the year, and its IMPLIED that its the model year. like theres people driving around in 04 350z's, and they just call them 04's. the fact that its a "model year" is just implied or common knowledge.

I think it started becasue the car has 2000 and the year could be 2000. So I guess that was the way it all started. But again, this is just my guess as I was not here when this all started. I wish I was
