If prestige is your passion, I totally agree with Rasputin. While I think the 3 Series is a nice enough car, I must see about a zillion of them every day. I can go weeks without seeing another S2000. That's not exactly prestige, I realize, but it does give you an idea of how many there are out there...(at least in Chicago, where I live).

3 Series are a dime a'dozen. The only BMW's, IMO, that carry any prestige are the M5, Z8, 7 Series, one of my fave BMW's the 8 Series and the M3. Garden variety 3 Series don't have prestige on the same level as other BMW's as there are more in Chicago than there are Civics (I posted a thread about this very topic a while back).

And it does amuse me when people post this kind of quandary...not bagging on you at all...it's just been a while since we have seen..."Which car should I get? An S4 (or insert some other completely different kind of car here) or an S2000?!"

Different cars...test drive, you will understand.

Well, as far as prestige goes, it depends on your perception. I feel that, while a BMW is certainly a great automobile, let's face it, they are EVERYWHERE. Can't go down the road without seeing at least 10 of em.

The S2000? Frankly, owning a car that is rare to see on the road has it's own level of "prestige" don't you think?

Some other points to ponder:

- The car is without question a "chick magnet"
- People always stop me and ask me what kind of car I am driving
- Every time I park it, a crowd of people forms to admire my S2K
- It's a convertible! 'nuff said
- 6 speeds, 9k RPM, 240hp .......fun stuff

I am perfectly content with my S2K over a BMW, don't regret my choice one bit!

if you need convincing, this is not the car for you.

I think 3 series would still be "fun" to drive... though certainly
not in the level of the S2000...
(S2000 sort of in the extreme part of the fun meter)...

BMW 3 series will get you more prestige... I know that BMW 3
will be seen alot more on the street.. but ask anyone who does
not know much about cars... BMW's emblem will pretty much
be anwer their question...
(Btw, I see 2-4 S2000's daily...but alot more BMW 3's)

And if you get a 330ci.. it will look good and will not be that much
slower than S2000 (in the straight road)... though it will probably
not fit your 32k budget...

Wow, I'm glad 2 see this post got everyones underwear in a bunch
Every car has pros & cons I just wanted to get a few opinions. I know I can't go wrong with an S2000 (other than its size) but u must understand my point I already own a 2-seater that I refuse to get rid of, so I was just considering other options, that's all. I'm not dissing the S2000 by any means if I could I would have one in every color. I do love the S2k don't get me wrong, as far as I'm concerned its as good as BOUGHT!
But my question about the cars u could own other than it in its price range is still valid

Buy the car between Christmas and New Years and be prepared to get a great deal. That time is terrible for moving cars and considering the way NY winters are, convertibles aren't in high demand either. Good luck, you'll love the car.
