It's not a "fun tidbit" until you give us the response. For now its just a "tidbit"
I don't recall exactly - something about the heritage of the S800 (he showed us photos of the S800 he personally owned) and the fun-to-drive factor. I don't recall anything about displacement tax rates or the like. I wish I could find the video that Greg Stevens made of it, but I don't think it exists out there anymore.

You can see the photo of Greg, Sonda and the engineers on the "other" site on the 8th row at:

look at the bright side. When the "new" S comes out, we can all band up against it and claim OG superiority.
basically. the defiant nature against AP2s is getting old. all of these debates turn out the same

Cuz the only thing that matters is perference. Why Honda did it doesn't matter. How we feel about it does.

We all know plenty - we know what was done, and we know what we think of it.
Well, it all depends upon how you address these debates.

From what I'm reading, people fight these battles as if they're speaking the truth when it's all opinionated... And that leads people (like myself, who do not know any better) to believe what isn't actually true and pass it onto the next person...

But this is standard forum fare. Even the need to prove that one is better than the other, when in reality there're really almost completely the same car. Getting insider information from honda would be an interesting way to approach the issue, if it were possible, but even solid data like autocross times are open to interpretation.

The Mod should sticky that thread we just did 8+ pages on and lock everything else...

Then we could discuss something less trivial, like turbo vs super charger
In a thread that is suppose to be about whether or not the debate will end, we see that the debate continues. Certainly that MUST answer the original question.

Sometimes I find it entertaining when facts are transformed into opinions simply because they defy any rational counter argument.

I worry about that too. When I was new here it took me a while to find a few people I could count on for reliable information, but it was worth the wait and effort.

In the end you have to take the best information you can find and then make your own decisions, but it might help if you can identify the people who share your perspective. If you end up getting your advice from undependable sources you'll figure it out quickly enough, and you'll learn from the mistake, so it's all good.

Can you explain what you mean by "defiant nature against the AP2?"

I thought there was substantial agreement across the board that the AP2 was a more refined car with lots of improvements.

When I first bought the S2000, I was really nervous about the whole snap oversteer issue. I was worried that I'd lift of the throttle in a turn while changing gears and end up in the weeds. And this was from reading xviper.
Luckilly no oversteer issues, even on the track, where understeer, was the worst I felt. I've had the VSA kick in a couple times, but I've never felt more in contol of a car.

I still don't know what the OP was asking. Would you mind restating what exactly it is you're intending to do here? Provoke discussion? Get information, if so, what exactly would you like to know? Bump up your PPD? Or are we just pissing in the wind here?

Have we gone to the mythical land of Honda Philosophy in this thread?

That shoe does not fit me I'll tell ya that right now.

For me I honestly don't care which version of our wonderful S2000 is faster or has more torque or has a better interior or options or colors or whatever. For me it all boils down to the engine, I prefer the 9,000 engine! 8,200 is nothing special when you look at manufacturers like BMW and many, many others. However, 9 grand, that's unique and bold, and that alone is why I'm an AP1 Fan! It has nothing to do with pride or vanity. And in addition I honestly don't care who prefers which one, I don't have ill feelings one way or another regarding their passion for one or the other or what their passion is seated in, I only know I prefer my 9 grand engine.
I'd like to think that the shoe doesn't fit me either.

It seems to me that you have plenty to like about your car, and have the right attitude about how it compares to what others have.

I see the S2000 as an interesting design, and it is as good a study in design tradeoffs as you'll find anywhere. The changes made to the later cars are no less interesting then the original design decisions, and it's a shame that we can't discuss them without some people getting upset. It's unfortunate, but as has already been pointed out, it's just standard fare on a public forum.
