Stoped at the dealer the other day and after looking at a Stook with an extra 5k on the sticker asked the salesman why;??? His answer was that he didn't think Honda was going to keep making the car. If so the 5k is a good investment if not it is a waste of $$$ until the prices and demand come down.

Jay,

There are a number of opinions out there but I have heard that the car is slated for one model generation. That is to say four model years. The first was model year 2000, so the final model year will be 2003. Still, only 5000 cars per year (although last year they made 5200) make it a limited edition. I must say, however, that I was able to pay MSRP for mine. You should visit the Honda web site and click on the free quote icon. That's how I did it. Had to drive 300 miles for the pick up but a $5000.00 saving can buy a lot of hotel room and dinner for the trip. Could work out to be a nice weekend for you and a buddy or significant other .

Weasel is right on about the original plans for the Stook, but the speculation is that the production run will be cut short because of the "profit margin" Honda has on the car. Not the dealer, they make just over 3 grand on it, but it is an industry rumor that Honda has lost big money on this car. Their choices include stopping production, making it more expensive in the years to come, or cheapening it. Is there a "none of the above" catagory in here somewhere?

The rumor that has been discussed here, is that Honda is making a killing on our s2k's.

Who knows tho. My guess is the s2k isn't going anywhere for a while.

I saw somewhere that Honda's profit (marginal of course) on the S2000 is greater than any other of their cars. Makes sense since it's the most expensive. If we are to believe that the VINs are numbered sequentialy, then Honda has imported more than 8000 s2ks in the US alone for the 2000 model year.

Actually, the 5 year generation has only just started in Honda's lineup with the model year 1996 Civic, and the 1998 Accord. Before that, their life spans were 4 years. The NSX is a special production car and hasn't really been considered out dated until only recently anyway...so I think Honda's doin' fine.

The only problem I have with them, is aside from a couple cars like the S2000, NSX, and the current Prelude...the rest of their lineup looks like the crack of my ass, and I think they're only gonna get worse.

[QUOTE]just started in Honda's lineup with the model year 1996 Civic[/QUOTE}

Nix that...the '96 Civic is also a 4 year generation...the '98 Accord is what I heard will start the 5 year life span for Hondas. Before that...it was this way...

1 year : They'd add something small to piss you off for buyin' the year before it.
2 years: They'd make minor changes to lights (head and tail)
4 years: Body style changes
8 years: New chassis, thus, new lights, bod, and whole new car...
