The Church uses their funds for a variety of causes in the local area. They are not all about some fancy building. They have helped and continue to support a variety of local organizations which assistence.
Some of the recent groups include a Womens shelter in Hackensack, NJ , Boys Shelter in Passiac NJ, People to People in Rockland County, as well as the local Food Banks and this month a homeless shelter. The list goes on with the teen support group as well as several local families. The proceeds will be used to help a lot of people.

I'm looking for Honda/Import/S2000 meets in April and May that I could take our S2000 to and sell tickets. Anybody have some ideas of close ones to NJ? (Like ImportExpression 3/29 in Flushing NY)
Looks like I just missed the NY/NJ meet on the 16th
Also if you know of any further away, I'd appreciate any contact info that I could talk to about sending flyers.
Thanks evrybody.

There is no connection, and I'm on here as a member to promote an Auto Raffle not a religion.
The discussion thread should be about the raffle.
When I originally proposed the S2000 as the prize, I thought that there would be a huge response from the S2000 community. I looked at all of the raffles that were advertised in the back of certain auto magazines, and most times I would not be interested in the car offered.
I realize that you'll never please everybody, but please lighten up guys, this is supposed to be a fun event. I'll be sure to post when there have been 400 tickets sold.
Thanks.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like an alarmist. Hope you do well with the raffle, I'd buy a ticket, but after being unemployed for over two years, I can't really afford one
Good luck and lets hope the winner is worthy of such a prize!

So spend a minimum of $40,000 or a maximum of $100,000 and you greatly improve your chances of winning an S2000? Okay, I'm laughing now. I think you all know why.
This sounds like it's benifiting the Scientilogy cult.

Come on guys....
Check out every raffle listed in AutoWeek, etc. It is not unusual for organizations to "try" and sell 1,500-3,000 tickets for cars such as Mini Coopers, Corvettes, etc. at $50. to $100. per ticket.
Just because they have to have the maximum ticket number registered with the state, and all tickets are pre-printed with serial numbers, let's not blast them for the amount that any organization might make. A good majority of raffles work on 2:1 with people figuring that a $30K car should sell $60k of tickets. 600 tickets in this case. Well that is the goal, but what harm is there in authorizing 1000 vs 600 tickets? If they sell does it dramatically change the odds. Remember there is a time limit, and the car is still being given away if only 400 tickets are sold.
If 400 tickets are sold after two months of organization and three months of sales, is that $10k (prior to advertising expenses) really too much for a non-profit organization to make? I know of local groups who raise that kind of cash in a weekend promotion. If they sell more or even all of the tickets, some lucky ticket holder still one the S2000.
The idea is that each of these organizations has to purchase the car, and yes it is typically the major fundraiser of the year which has everyone working at it for several months. (A raffle is considerably more work then hosting Bingo once a week all year long.)

I went to the Church's web site. Nowhere does it talk about any charitable work that they do, nor does charity or public service appear to be even part of the basic beliefs of the church. In fact, the church seems mostly concerned with betterment and enrichment of yourself, not assistance or betterment of others.
While I fully support your right to hold this auction, and I don't doubt its legitimacy, I think people who spend money at a fundraiser should have at least some accounting of where the funds are going. None appears on the web site. Caveat emptor.
If I had $100 to give away, I would give it to a group that I know would use it to help society, not help themselves. BTW, isn't "religious science" an oxymoron?
